Samsung 2TB 5400RPM all the way. I bought one in December 2010 for my new rig and it's been rock-solid since. I went ahead and got another one that just came in the mail today. It's formatting as I type this :)

When it comes to drive manufacturers I think you will get different answers from every person because of their own experiences. For me personally I have had awful experiences with WD and Seagate, but have never had a Hitachi drive fail... But that's just me. I am sure there's people with the exact opposite experiences. My advice? Buy whatever is cheapest and take the necessary steps to keep it backed up. Never, ever trust a mechanical hard drive.

And the Sun orbits the Earth...

Please, you need numbers, evidence, data, something! to back up your statement. If you can provide a link or something, that would be great, because I would like to know.

okay dude i've been in the hosting business since 91 and have had to deal with alot of small build machines. raid-5 is the sux. raid-10 you can do with a $25 controller and achieve data rates (write) far far greater than raid-5 with zero checksum computation. and i've had dual disk failures before raid-6 was in use.

$25 BR10i (i've got a few) + 4 drives cost less than fancycache raid-5 controller and 3 drives lol.
