best 2GB (1x2) DDR2 Ram for under $200?

Patriot 667 is around $175

Corsair 800 is going to be about $25-$40 over your budget... unless you can find a rebate.

Gold = bad

Platinum = ok

It's why there's so many Gold sticks on "open box" at newegg and why it's cheap.

My friend has a K9A with 2x1GB of OCZ Gold. It works perfectly fine.

*EDIT*
Nevermind, he has a K9N.

DDR2-667 should be enough. You don't need to buy really expensive RAM.

how about between those brands though

Brand name doesn't really matter. It's the actual RAM chips that count. As long as your motherboard doesn't have a specific dislike for RAM (like the DFI Lanparty Ultra-D and Corsair RAM).

so all ram is made equal?

then why do they do reviews and benchmark comparison reports against other ram?

why would a 667 patriot be good and a 667 OCZ gold series horrible??

No it's not equal. Each ram manufacturer uses different voltage settings and different timings programmed into the memory. It also has alot to do with the type of chips used in the memory. OCZ may use Micron and someone else may use Samsung.

There are so many differend types of RAM out there. Read some benchmarks, decide what's the best bang for your buck. As for me, I just started out with 2x512MB of Corsair ValueSelect DDR400 since it was so cheap. Later, I found an amazing deal for 2x1GB of Patriot low latency DDR400 for $105.
