Can anyone recommend a top-notch CRT given the following requirements (from most important to least important):

1. 21" - 23"

2. Crystal-clear image. I'm programming for hours upon hours everyday, and the eye strain is really getting to be a problem. I'm also considering LCD, but I play a fair amount of games, and am not sure if the LCD technology is quite where I want it yet.

3. Support 1600x1200 or greater at 85Hz.

4. As small weight as possible.

5. Small desktop footprint as possible.

6. Price. While I can't honestly say money is no issue, I'm willing to fork out quite a bit for a quality monitor that will last me for some time.

This monitor simply cannot be beat for most of the criteria you cite above.

It covers your requirements for #1, 2, 3, and 6 (you'll be paying for it). 4 and 5 above are subjective wants. YMMV.

This monitor has to be seen to be believed.

That F520 does look very sweet.

I'm comparing it to the G520 now. The F520 has some things that I don't need, like a USB hub and multi-computer support.

Of the few technical difference between them, the only thing that stands out is the 0.22mm pitch on the F520 compared to 0.24mm on the G520. How much of a difference would that 0.02mm make?

Also, they have the same max resolution, but the F520 can do the 2048x1536 at 85Hz, while it appears that the most the G520 can do at 85Hz is 1880x1440. At least, 1880/85 is what is lists as the 'recommended' resolution. Shame it can't do 1920x1440 at 85Hz, the 4/3 aspect ratio would be nice.

Of course, $520 instead of $1280 (both from Dell) sure is nice.

You would notice the .24 to .22 most if you are working with higher resolutions, and by that I mean above 1600x1200.

I too have the E540 and it is a very good monitor, but I am afraid it just isn't the same as the F520. The G520 is nice and more comparable to the F520. I guess it would come down to whether you really want the .22 or not. Some people's eyes are more sensitive to the difference than others. YMMV.

I dream about getting the F520 on my next monitor purchase. Who knows, if one of my other monitors dies at the same time I have a three check month, it could happen (don't laugh - or tell my wife for that matter).
