I've been looking for a smartphone in the $200 range and was expecting some decent deals for Black Friday (like the HTC One for $179) but I haven't come across any. Have you guys seen anything? T-mobile non-contract.

I think the Black Friday deals are usually for contract phones (and thus not really deals at all IMO).

For under $200, I think the Moto G is the only choice worth considering.

+1 for the Moto G

You seriously thought the One would go on sale for $179? BWHAHA Mine was $150 on contract.

If you need something soon, you could go with a used Nexus 4 or a Nokia 521.

You really thought you could get the HTC One (a FLAGSHIP smartphone) for $179 off-contract? What world do you live in? Your best bet is the Moto G, or pony up a little more and you can get the Nexus 5.

Or if you're interested in Windows Phone, the 520 goes for about $70ish off-contract.

There's a very good reason for that.

If HTC sold the One unlocked for 179, they'd be losing a good chunk of money on every single one. The iPhone 5 costs about $200 to make, and I'm sure the One is no different.

I just checked and all of the major Black Friday deals are for contract phones.

Maybe the days after swappa will be filled with older top shelf 2012 models?

Somebody who wants LTE or a better CPU than A7?
then you gotta pay more, or go used, or go Chinese/off-brand

cheapest HTC one refurb was $370.

You'll need to go one generation back (or dual-core of current generation).
Samsung S3 or earlier

The Moto G performs really, really well in benchmarks for its price.

The HTC One Mini and S4 Mini both have higher-clocked dual core Krait CPUs and both are far behind the Moto G in many benchmarks. So I see no problem with quad A7. I just pre-ordered my Moto G today and I think it's going to be a huge step up from my Galaxy Nexus.

HSPA+ on T-Mobile negates the lack of LTE, at least in my case. And coming from an iPhone 4S the Moto G is plenty fast. The Moto G is perfect for a huge swath of the general population.

If you want LTE:

LG Optimus F3

My father in law has had his for about 3 months and as far as I know, no issues at all.

Otherwise, Moto G.
