Best 2.1 speakers for PC Entertainment?

I just moved and intend to build a new PC Entertainment system in my bedroom.
I haven't been in touch with high-end PC audio for awhile, so I am wondering what options do I have now in the US. (Yeah...I know I know...high-end in PC land, is still considered low-end for the AV folks. I don't plan to spend thousands, but I am not elcheapo either. So a realistic budget cap for me would be like $500. I paid $400 for my Creative MegaWorks 650 a couple years ago when it came out.)
Actually, I think I already have something in mind, Onkyo HTX-22HDX (http://www.onkyousa.com/model.cfm?m=HTX-22HDX&class=Systems&p=i). Problem is I don't know when, if ever, will it be available in the states and for what kind of price tag.
I had it's Japanese predecessor, the HTX-22HD, in the past, and it worked great for me. I connected my laptop, PS3, 360, and Bluray player to it. I really appreciated the connectivity. Unfortunately, that is before my best friend fried it together with my 360, so I left them in Asia.

Notwithstanding the availability issue, what speakers would you guys recommend for a setup like this? I do not intend to go 5.1/7.1 because of wiring and space issues. The system should be pretty well-around for movies, pop music, and games.

It appears Klipsch, Logitech, and Razor all have THX certified 2.1 offerings, anyone recommend these? Are there audio systems that are similar and worth mentioning? How about soundbars that support Dolby/DTS HD? I intend to connect a PS3 or 360 to it in the future in addition to my PC, so connectivity really is a plus.

ps. any suggestions on 5.1/7.1 headphones? I already own a pair of Monster Turbine Pro Coppers, but I am still looking for a more gamer/surround sound orientated set.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks, that can be a possibility. But I hold something against 2.0s, maybe it could just be a stereotype or misconception, but I like my bass. Somehow I find the bass in 2.0 systems to be somewhat lacking, I used to own a set of Creative T-20, they work great for regular music listening. Can't say the same when I am playing games with explosions or trying to fill the room for a disco party.

As of the Swan 200MKIII, I have not had any personal experience with the system. But, one of my friends own a set of the comparable Edifier S2000, and I didn't find it to my liking.

You can build something with parts off eBay for $400. A entry-level receiver, a pair of say Klipsch RSX-5s, and a small sub.

Buy a pair of bookshelf speakers and a subwoofer

I am using Infinity P162 speakers with PS12 subwoofer... I am happy with it
