I have used Altec Lansing's ADA 880 in the past[one of the most incredible speaker systems i have ever listened to]. I know that they then made an ADA 890 replacement for it. Both get pretty good reviews... but a few years later the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 came out, are the Promedia truly the best? do they sound that amazing? I'm trying to decide what to upgrade to?

Currently using the Champagne Harmon Kardon setup.

I went from the ADA 880's to my home theatre setup (component based, Pioneer elite receiver+polk audio RM6300 sats+Polk sub) I then gave my speakers to my brother. He won't give them back, and i have since moved into a house, separating my pc from my theatre rig.

Are the klipsch really that good? Has anyone used both?

Thanks

i can tell you that klipsch are amazing.

i use to use the microsoft 2.1 digital (old school speakers) and that damn thing would over heat my room and i would have to switch the headphones, but now i have the klipsch 5.1s and i love it, i cranck the dial to half way and turn the base up and i would be shaking the whole house. Also i think klipsch is a great way for music just cause they are made with quality and if you ever have problems with the speakers you can return them if the speakers has any problems with it.

check out audioreview.com for more info, it has a lot of speakers reviews.

i personally love my klipsch 5.1s and i have no complaints

The speakers are so nice he had to post it twice!

Seriously, the Klipsch 2.1 speakers are pretty awesome. They are on sale at BestBuy today (last day of the sale) for $179.99 with a $50 mail in rebate. I think you can get them for around $140 shipped online though. If I had the cash that is where I would spend it for musical speakers.

Find some Monsoon speakers for music. They'll sound better than the klipsch...depending on what kind of music you listen to that is.

Some reviews say they have crappy wiring, i have plenty of 12 gauge speaker wire lying around from my home theatre setup, do i need to do anything special to connect these speakers with regular speaker wire?

I have the Klipsch 2.1 as well. Aside from the crappy connectors which take some wiggling to fix, I have had no problems. I have them mounted to the wall using the Klipsch wall mounts so the connectors never move like they did when I had them on the desk.

Yes, minijacks for the Sats which can be had cheap @ any Elec.Store
Hey actually you can spice them off of the wires you get with the set-up ;)

Will replacing the wires and the connectors with better wire+new connectors fix the problem described 2 posts above?

for 2.1, Altec Lansing 621's, Monsoon's or just get an AV receiver and get some regular bookshelf speakers.

2.1?

Thats easy get the following;

Harman/Kardon AVR 7500 for about $1600
Mission m74i Front Left and Right Paired Speakers (150Watts each) for about $650
M&K V850 (200Watt internal amplifier) for about $1750

and there you go, 2.1 sound like never before... (and a rival to any home theatre setup :))

I've listened to klipsh speakers and I really do not think they are worth the money. I think logitech makes a good set of speakers for the price they charge (I got z-640's for 40 bucks, can't go wrong with that).

Quite easy actually. The SPDIF socket.

They use a regular ol' 1\8" mini plug?

Yep, you can also get a Harman/Kardon adapter that plus straight into your USB port in your PC, and it basically sends a PCM bitstream to your amplifier.

All of these so-called speakers are not well suited to Music, as they lack a lot in the midrange area!

I challenge you to find me better speakers than m74i's below $1000 per pair.

Are you refering to Mission m74?

FLOORSTANDING SPEAKERS?

I give an example of a LOT better speakers than those. They may be great for home-thatre, but for music they would probably suck!

For that amount of money I would go for Triangle Comete, Epos M12, JMR Twins MkIII.
They cost less than the Mission m74 and deliver much more as far as music is concerned!

What i have now, has no midrange. I have found 2 options that definately have more midrange than what i am listening to. The Klipsch 2.1's are going to be put on my desk as computer speakers but i want something with better sound, will these not do much better than these 1/2 inch tweeters i have now? (harmon kardon champagne)
