Best 2.1 computer speakers?

..so sorry if it's the wrong forum!

I'm looking for a great sounding but economically sound (not necessarily budget) computer speaker system for mostly listening to music and for video editing work.

Let's cap my budget at $500, max (but my wife would be happy if I spend closer to $200). I'm not a musician nor am I really an audiophile, so the cheaper the better 😉

I had the klipsch promedia 2.1 set years ago and loved it but found the highs a little shrill. Something eventually fried so I dumped it and use a set of "speaker company" (i.e. generic?) 2.1 speakers that sound pretty good, but the sound seems pretty bottle up, and not very lively.

I listen to mostly indie rock, electronic, and hip hop (with a little acoustic folk and soundtrack music thrown in as well)

For $500 you could probably get some decent studio monitors. I'd probably check some pro-audio/musician websites.

$500 is my absolute, "I'll have to pack lunch to justify this expense" budget. I'm mostly saying that I'm annoyed at myself for trying cheapies (from the well review logitech s220s that absolutely blew to various mediocre sets) and am OK with paying for quality.

$200 is a more realistic goal, since I'm not a musician and don't make money off of listening to my zune tunes 😉 Unless $300 brings a different pinnacle of performance, etc.
 
I have the Klipsch i-Fi. Would recommend, if you can find it, I think it's discontinued. It's nice because it has an ipod dock, and output from the ipod vs the line in is not exclusive. That means I can have the baseball game on my ipod touch while I play a game or have some music on.

Sound quality is excellent.

I've heard this as well. M-Audio makes a couple systems in that price range. Ns1 has a 2.0 setup from them, you might want to PM him to get his impressions.
 
You know, the power cable you use is really going to matter, though. Is that $500 budget for just speakers? 😉
