/Sigh at third person response.

I use the LG 19 inch widescreen, by no stretch in imagination is it the best. But I absolutely love it. Great bang for the buck.

19" widescreen is 1440 x 900, which means i dont need a rediculously overpriced video card to have all the high details turned up

I just bought a Samsung 941BW. 19" WS and it's pretty nice for the price. Only cost me about 165 AR also. Not really the best color quality, but it's pretty good for games with its pretty quick refresh 4ms. Not recommended for Photoshop though. You can see the color gradients very easily.

For monitors, I would stick to one of the more reputable companies, like Viewsonic, Samsung, Sony, etc. The reason being customer service. Personally, I've had my Viewsonic monitor go bad twice, which is weird b/c Viewsonic has top-notch build quaility and quality control, BUT their customer service was so good that it didn't bother me that my monitor went out twice. My next monitor purchase is probably going to be another Viewsonic even though they are pricey, just because I will sleep better at night knowing I'm in good hands in case sh*t hits the fan.

Ok, Elmo is right. The Dell 2007FWP is a very good LCD.

I just bought a Viewsonic VG1930wm which is a wide screen. It only cost about $275 and I get 1400x900 and that is plenty for me. Great montior with a very clear picture quality.

For you 19" WS owners: any feeling of "squished-ness" vertically? I'd also love widescreen, but there's no way I'm going to pump a load of money into my system every year just so it can run at 1680x1050. I've given 19" WS at stores about 5 minutes viewing (piss poor evaluation, I know), but they seem way too short. Normal 19" squares are great vertically, but only helps to emphasize the horizontal squish.

There's no reason that the full area must be utilized for games. But I'm not keen on "widescreen" format displays which are not actually wide compared to 4:3 AR offerings but essentially just chopped short. Of course, a 1680x1050 is cheaper than a 1600x1200 and I suppose appeals to a certain mindset besides. It's like trendy versus utilitarian.
