Alright, can anyone recommend a monitor? I'm tired of this one. I want a nice 19" that I can buy locally (anywhere in the Sacramento area, there's frys, compusa, best buy, etc all around here)

I dunno about it being local, but the Hitachi CM721F sells on New Egg for 255, with shipping its still under 300. Its a badass monitor, I'm even getting one tomorrow!

You want Aperture Grill (Trinitron), or shadow mask??

The KDS VS-195XP is nice and can be had for <$250 including shipping. It's a shadow mask. I have the old version (VS-195e) at home.

If you want Trinitron, the KDS XF-9p can be purchased for <$300 including shippng.

Which tube do you have a preference for?

What resolution do you plan on running?

Plan on running 1280x960. haven't specifically got a tube preference, but want it to be flat. I've liked the Trinitron tubes, but I have no particular loyalty to them, and would consider something else, too.

I got a nice Viewsonic, I think the model is G90F or something - not home right now to find out actual model number - for less than 300. I also just bought a new AOC 19 incher for my Mom's computer for about 250 I think.

Viewsonic A90f (shadow mask) or A95f (aperture grill). Both flat screen. Both can be had almost anywhere (Fry's, BestBuy, CompUSA, etc) for right at $300.

notfred,

I have a NEC FE950+ myself, that I purchased at Fry's Santa Clara. The monitor is flat (aperture grill), has a very good tube, and comes in both black and white(if you're into that). When I purchased it, it was on sale and I remember that it was less than $300. You should go check it out, to see if you like it.

I'm not sure if you know, but aperture grill monitors have 2 small horizontal gray lines that are actually shadows of what holds the aperture grille. They are barely noticable, and they don't really bother me, but you should go and look at it carefully to see if you have a problem with it.

Just an FYI...

Shadow Masks tend to have sharper text. Trinitron(Aperture Grill) tend to have less crisp text, but better color saturation.

I, personally, don't care for Viewsonics. I'm not impressed with the one's we bought here at work.

Both these technologies usually result in crisp clean images. (As long as the monitor is plugged in)

I have this one and it's pretty nice... fairly low refresh rates at higher res. though.
