I love Newegg in general and bought most of my current equipment from them but I'm wary of mail-ordering LCDs. Doesn't Newgg have an 8-pixel minimum for returns due to pixel defects? And what about restocking fees?

I have the same feelings songdog, and I'm not sure about Newegg's policy. All I know is I wouldn't enjoy paying for shipping to and from my house on a defective monitor. This looks like a good lcd, I'm just going to wait until its in stock in more stores. Plus some MIRs will start being offered soon to bring the price down a bit.

For my part I currently have no monitor (I'm online intermittently via my work notebook) so I'm hoping to find the right monitor in a decent store ASAP!

This sounds amazing BUT!!!!

How do I know I am buying it?

I checked Dell and they have a VP191B but it does not appear to be the VP191B your talking about. I severely hate companies who put out new products but do not change the name of the product.

I would love to buy it from Dell as they have some great coupons for this weekend but I dont know what I would be getting.

Also some people are claiming to get the same monitor with the new Dell 1905. Is there any way to confirm this?

Also some are saying this has that new special coating that helps colors look much much better. The coating that NEC and Sony has. Is that info correct?

Please help as I am kind of in a tough spot. I had planned on purchasing the 2005FPW this weekend, the deals end this weekend, but this monitor actually sounds like it would look overall alot better. Thanks up front for advice.

Dell Link to the VP191B

Newegg link to the VP191B

From the above two links it would appear the model that Newegg is carrying is the new one. And it would appear the one dell is carrying is not.

I just got a 1905FP, and it has this panel m190en03. I think this is the AUO panel referred to by the OP, anyone else have a 1905 with this panel?

Has anyone here recently ordered the VP191B from Dell, and did it come in the box with the 8ms sticker? I have to agree with dfloyd: changing the specs of this LCD without changing its model number makes for some uncertain shopping.

Is the VP191b using the same technology as the upcoming 4ms VX924, also by viewsonic?? If not, what is the difference and which would be best for a gamer?

Not sure Shredman,

Got a Provantage catalog a few days ago that has the VX924 in it and and a low low price of onely $434. Thats not bad for the first 4MS response time monitor I have seen.

Is it the MVA panel the 191b is using? I am guessing no, mainly because of the class of monitor the two are in. One being Pro and one being X series. If the VX924 is a MVA Panel at 4MS then there is going to be a serious upset in the Panel world. I am guessing it would be a TX based panel though, similar to what L90D+ is using and such.

Thats pure speculation though and I could easily be wrong.

And as far as best, probably the 191B. Again dont judge the 8ms vs the 4ms as it is not a true representation of what the monitors are capable of. If the 924 is using a TX panel the the response is probably worse overall than the 191B. Yes it may have a faster low end but its the high end you got to watch (In other words who cares if you get 60fps some of the time if it dips to twenty every now and then). The 191B on benchmarks never got above 16ms response time. Thats at its worst, and is very very impressive.

But then again, if the VX924 is using the same type of panel and tech as the 191b then its going to be a monster of a monitor.

In a followup to an earlier question about whether this is really an 8-bit panel I found this earlier thread in which an AnandTech member reports confirming this with Viewsonic.

Personally I still haven't seen this monitor or found the 8ms panel at a dealer who'll take a return/exchange with restocking gouging. Please let me know if any of you have!

Quoting another source:

The new 8ms screens can be identified via the following example:

Sample serial number: A1W050420001
The 05 refers to the year, 04 refers to the week this screen was produced.
Anything newer than 2005 week 4, will be 8ms; anything older will be 16ms.

Yeah that model #'s right according to TOMS HW...Same question for you how do you know. Did you open it up?

I called Dell today, not about the 1905FP questions, but to ask whether their VP191b monitors were the new 8ms ones. I was told that the panels would most likely be the newest ones because they get shipped from Viewsonic (or a Viewsonic distributor), not from Dell, when an order is placed. There is a 21 day no-restocking-fee return policy, although I'd almost certainly have to pay to ship it back.

Has anyone here actually ordered a VP191b from Dell and can you confirm which version you received? Please?

As long as we're talking about Dell what do you think about their 2005FPW versus the VP191b? It's cheaper (on special through tomorrow morning), supposedly 8 bits, and gets good reviews.

The 2005FPW does not have a fast response time like the VP191p. Read the recent Anandtech comparison review between the Apple 20" widescreen and the Dell.

Actually that's where I learned about the 2005FPW in the first place, billbillw. It comes out very well in that review and supposedly achieves a 16ms response time (though it's advertised as 12ms), the same as the VP191b's typical real-world response time, though I haven't seen an detailed analytic graph of the Dell as we have for the Viewsonic. Perhaps I'm overlooking something you found in that review? If so please point it out!

right now 1905fp on dell.ca says 20ms
so if you order a 1905fp dell you might get the same auo 8ms panel!!!
will this make it the same as 191b? cause if so it's a much better deal.

Can anyone tell me how good the 8ms VP191B screens look when interpolating lower resolutions (specifically 1024x768 and 800x600)?

It seems that Best Buy and Circuit City have both stopped offering Viewsonic screens, at least on their websites. I don't understand why. Maybe they are waiting for these newer models to come in?

I just checked the bestbuy, compusa, circuit city websites and none have this LCD. CompUSA carries viewsonic though. Perhaps I should write them.
