Best 19" CRT for text/graphics?

I may be in range of the Samsung 900NF so should I save up some more and get that? LCDs are still out of my range at the moment (sadly). Or perhaps the 957MB? Man, I don't really know. So I refer back to my topic question.

So, people, if you were to recommend a 19" Flat-Screen CRT to someone who does a lot of coding, word processing and yet also does a lot of graphical work and gaming...what would you recommend? I really enjoy excellent graphics, but crisp text is of course a must for what I do.

I just bought a Viewsonic E70f (.21/.25 dot pitch). The text and 2D display quality (with my Sapphire ATI 7500) are virtually the best I?ve seen on any monitor, although my 7500 is very good in this respect. The color saturation (graphics) I would also rate as excellent. Amazing for the ?budget? price.

Check out the G90f, that should suite your needs.

hitachi and iiyama makes the best monitor for graphics.. they are really good at making shadow mask monitors which are more accurate/crisp in producing colors..

I'm inclined to believe that Trinitron tubes are easier to read text on. The shadow mask on a trinitron is composed of rectangles that are stacked in perfect alignment, whereas other tubes have shadow masks made of circular dots that are staggered. Since text is rectilinear it looks sharper on a square grid. The staggered mask produces fuzzy text, and caused more eyestrain.

I have a Iiyama Vision Master Pro450. Very flat and crisp in everything. Mitsubishi make gret monitors also. Can't go wrong with any of their 19" flat CRT stuff. Do check the specs of them though. Some of them don't do as high as the others in their range.

Yeah. My friends bought 19" CRT not flat screens about 2 years ago. You definately see the differences. on a flat CRt the dots are all perfectly aligned and theirs are not.

Well the ones I was deciding between was the Hitachi CM721F and the NEC MultiSync FE991SB. I know two people that got Hitachi 17" (non-flat) monitors and I agree...the picture was very good on them. Anyone know if that Hitachi is good? Well I have had my eye on the G90f. I'd imagine that Viewsonic's Graphics series is pretty good too. I can't remember, but I had thought that the Hitachi CM721F wasn't TCO'99 certified, which raises my eyebrow because most are. Are any of these not truly flat? I remember someone advised me to get the 955DF and after seeing it in a store, that really really annoyed me.

Edit: For those that may not want to go look up the specs on a whim, that Hitachi model is an invar shadow mask tube and the FE991SB is a DiamondTron tube (Aperture Grille of course).

I have a 17" Non-Flat MultiSync 75 on another PC and that is the same shadow mask as the Hitachi and has the same dual dynamic focus thing and the picture is outstanding...so I am inclined to lean towards the Hitachi, but that FE991SB Trinitron-like tube is $256 w/o shipping charges on Newegg...and the Hitachi is $270 I think.

superbright nec and don't fret about not being able to afford a lcd. they are only really good at text. at gaming/colors/contrast/graphics they are still inferior.

KDS 19inch Xtreme Flat, get it at walmart for $188, my friend hooked me up with a 10% discount:). The Samsung 955DF is the second good option, btw get your monitors at dell.com, free s/h and sometimes they have 10% discounts.

Are all the KDS 19in XF-9x (x = a letter) the same? I heard someone say the KDS 19" XF-9E is the same as the XF-9P, just a different letter :p. I had been wondering about those Xtreme Flats, so maybe i'll check it out if it is as walmart (didn't know that).

yeah when dell has % off coupons, not to mention their occasional stackable coupons, they are probably the best place to get monitors. Free shipping no tax in most places, just watch their site toward the end of each month and you may spot a good deal that will bring some of the more expensive monitors into your price range

Wow, some impressive prices off of Dell's store. I saw that PC World has the Dell M992 in their top 10 for 19" CRT screens (caught me by surprise). I just might buy one off of Dell...looks like the prices are cheaper.

I have a Viewsonic 19" graphic series monitor and it was very well worth the purchase, The only problem that I have is that it can be a little tricky to adjust the setting just right to fit perfect, otherwise its a good monitor.

Okay, so I guess my decision is narrowed down to the NEC FE991SB. That was originally what my choice came down to, but I heard people say something about the text...but I find an overwhelming majority say it is a very good monitor. I have a friend that actually bought at Alienware Area-51 PC and it came w/ the FE991SB by default and he said it is the best he's seen :). I have seen a few shadow mask monitors, like the 17" non-flat Hitachis that my cousin and sister have...and the old MultiSync 75 we also have. They do not look bad...they look VERY good so I naturally considered NEC and Hitachi.

Does this sound like a good choice...going with the NEC FE991SB? I might buy it this week, unless I have good reason to wait and buy something else. Either way, it looks like i'll be buying a very good monitor :). I will probably buy the black version of it off of Dell or Newegg since it is cheaper than the white version (I would like to know why)...which is strange. I hear this FE991SB is spectacular with images and games...and good w/ text too. I would also like to have an Aperture Grille, since they look so nice :)...sounds like i'm set! Thanks for everyone's help!
