best 17" value LCD?

I'm currently interested in getting the best possible 17" LCD under $350 or so, i've set my eyes on these three, and they all have great prices on newegg. Which would be best?

ACER AL1714CW 17" LCD Monitor -RETAIL - $299
http://www.newegg.com/app/view...=24-009-021&DEPA=1

Albatron 729A-ABN (Black) 17" VGA LCD Monitor with Speakers - Retail - $329
http://www.newegg.com/app/view...=24-170-009&DEPA=1

Rosewill R710N (Black) 17" LCD Monitor w/ Speakers -RETAIL - $295
http://www.newegg.com/app/view...=24-021-008&DEPA=1

I need the lcd for gaming, so low response time is a must then i obviously want the best contrast ratio and brightness. The Acer has a whooping 14ms, but contrast ratio is a somewhat low 370:1. The albatron and the rosewill are very alike feature wise.. but i dont know if the quality will be crappy? i've never heard of rosewill.

well if you guys have any other better picks under $350-400, point them out.

Have you considered the Samsung 710 series? They have 12ms panels with a 600:1 contrast ratio. A great deal at under $400. I am planning on purchasing a black one at the end of the month here from newegg.

if you have fry's nearby, buy the NEC 1735NXM. I just got one from fry's. Although it had one dead pixel, I think it is still very good.

damn, that 710N looks nice.. but it's a tad bit over my budget. Can i get one of those under 350 somewhere?

I have an older Albatron LCD, the L17ASD and its pretty good for gaming, even though its 25ms. All 3 would probably be decent for gaming. If you have DVI on your graphics card I highly recomment getting a monitor with DVI output. The image is so much sharper with DVI than VGA, it'll be worth the added cost.

hmm, dunno.. yea i hear dvi is great. Maybe it's worth getting a 15" instead? for the price of 350 or so on a 15" i can probably get great response time and dvi inputs. On a 17" dvi would be on $450+ monitors right?

Hey MadOnion

If you are going to get a LCD, I recommend saving up a bit more and getting something that you won't regret. I was in your situation few years ago. I thought LCD's were so cool so I saved up just enough money to get a cheapest Viewsonic LCD for around $300 shipped (of course it was a used one) and my goodness was I disappointed!!! I can't stress this enough. You get what you pay for. Please remember that. There's a clear reason why a same 17" Samsung LCD costs more than others or other name brand LCD's for that matter. I had to sell that Viewsonic LCD and of course I sold it for less than what I paid for plus lost shipping both ways. Few months later, I bought a Dell 1800FP. The difference was huge and I'm not just saying that... After getting the 1800FP, there was no way I was ever gonna go back to CRT. I recommended my bro to get a LCD monitor also and he got a 17" Samsung and he couldn't be happier.

If you ask me, $350 is alot of money. But I'm telling you now. If you're gonna get an LCD, you really need to get a nice one, not just the "cheapest one with DVi," because it will make a HUGE difference. Just think about why a no name brand LCD's with SAME specs as other name brand LCD's cost alot less. They are cheap for a reason and if you don't realize that, you will regret it. ^^

BTW, I'm not saying Viewsonic makes crappy LCD's. It's just that the one I bought was less than impressive and I really felt I just wasted $300... 🙁

I see, you have a point.. i might save up then. So the 710N would be a good pick? Im going to game, so the 12ms is great - but it has a lack of dvi, what do you think?

Isn't the 710N only analog? It seems like it doesn't have DVI, which is pretty important.

Your right, it doesn't. The 710T has dvi input. Thats why theres also a hefty 80 dollar difference between them.

I vote the Hyundai L70S. I picked one up at Frys today for $250. Its pretty good. The only other LCD I used at work, and its an Apple LCD. Its hard to tell if there is a difference quality wise because OS X looks a lot better than NT, but I have no complaints so far.
