I was under the impression the X1650XT was a somewhat better card, at the same price point, but i might be somewhat out of touch there 😱

Damn, you got me there. Hah!

I thought it was a *little* bit pricier than the 7600GT

You can get the 1650XT for just a bit over a hundred shipped, if you look hard enough. Yes, there's plenty of etailer still trying to get 160-200 for these bad boys, but hey.

OTOH, a 7600GT is $86 shipped AR at the egg right now. Why think?

The 8500GT for $70 shipped from zzf isn't a complete pile of poo either.

damn , i just got one last week for my media pc because of its pure video capabilities but it cost me $100, glad amazon is so good on returns, time to pack this thing up, hehe. im not entirely happy with its 1080p performance anyway.

Isn't that the best part? 😕

it was supposed to be, hehe, its was the only reason i bought it. needless to say im running it with vista on a dual view setup with my HDTV and it has nothing but driver issues with dual view and is missing most nvidia control panel options in vista. i cant believe how craptacular nvidias vista drivers are, hehe.

i suppose ill try putting my x1900xtx in the media pc since i have two new 2900's on the way. ill see if it has any better luck with vista and 1080p but nvidia drivers and vista gets a big thumbs down from me.

You should really buy used if you only have $100. I've seen 7800GT's,7900GS,ect going for that. I just bought a eVGA 7900GT Superclocked for $120 shipped.

SAPPHIRE 100164L Radeon X1650PRO 256MB 128-bit GDDR3. The price of this AR is $69.99

Or for $9.00 over your budger get the XT with DDR3

DO NOT buy ones with DDR2 memory, make sure its DDR3

ok, of those 2 cards you mentioned the only difference seems to be that the xt has 24 pipelines compared to the 12 pipelines of the pro.
now, im not up to par on the ins and outs of cards but im assuming the more the better but what role do the pipelines play exactly??

thank you!!

you won't see a drastic difference between the two cards but here is a primer on pipelines. Its not a new article but it does explain what pipelines do. the card that has more open pipeines is a better card all other things being equal and may allow you to play with more details on higher settings. They are both good budget cards though for the money.

THG did an article titled "The Best Gaming Video Cards for the Money: May 2007"

ok, so yesterday I made the decision and bought the Radeon X1650PRO. figured I cant go wrong until there are more d10x cards around and more importanlty until there are d10x games out!! not to mention for 75 shipped AR, I dont think I could go wrong!!

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102050

as great as the current d10x cards are right now, what will be available when the games actually make way will be much better and much more worth it then, or atleast I hope so. not to mention the prices will probably be a little better as ATI will of had time to come up with something better then what they have now, so with more competition we should hopefully get lower prices and more cards to pick from!!

thanx for the help, links and what not!!
