Best 10" android tablet for Reading?

Im looking to replace my eink kindle with an android tablet as I mostly read nonfiction and skip around and search books a lot which a tablet is much faster at doing.

Im a bit of a perfectionist and hate buyers remorse, there are so many tablets I dont know where to begin.

Important aspects:
a good screen, prefer less glare but thats probably not possible
good screen resolution
android 4, might as well get the newest
build quality

Not important:
3g - wont use it
gps - ditto
camera quality
gaming isnt a big focus

any ideas where I should start looking?
any opinions on the samsung vs asus lines?

I'd go with an ASUS model personally. It's got a better screen (higher DPI) than the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and is generally better in most other respects. The only other tablet I'd consider would be the Acer Iconia A700, as it has the same resolution as the ASUS TF700, but the overall quality is as good as it is with the ASUS model according to most reviewers. Otherwise the only other tablet worth considering is the new iPad, but if you prefer or want Android I'd go with the ASUS TF700.

The 9" Kindle/Nook tablets aren't to your liking?

Then the Infinity is your best option. But I'd wait a few weeks to see if the rumored hi-res Samsung Nexus is announced.

does it have to be 10"? Personally, i thought id be able to make the switch from my nook simpletouch, to a nexus 7, and even that was too heavy to hold with on hand laying down.

But i think for your money, the nexus 7 is where its at as far as android tablets go. If they can cut down on wasted bezel space and make it lighter, 7" is the perfect size for me. Until then ill stick with reading on my simpletouch/galaxy nexus.

I have a similar usage pattern
PDF's for text books and technical manuals

I use a Acer a500 with a matte screen protector
Running ICS (4.0) and at this point probably pretty cheap also

Works perfect 🙂

As for the nexus 7 or other 7 inch tablets definitely try them out before you buy
personally I find a 7 inch tablet too small for reading

These are some good ideas. I hadnt given the kindle 9" any thought but it looks like it has a really good screen and plenty of storage so I will check that out.

I had a 7" nook tablet but found that when looking at PDF's full size the text to be just a tad too small.

Amazon always has a free paid app every day as well. Ill have to look at it in stores and see how I like it compared to the asus and acer

Asus Infinity for the HD resolution. The text will look crisper, and the IPS+ display means you can read in full daylight as well.

i have been loving mine. i had a 7" tablet a while back and it was ok for reading e-books, since they would reflow, and some web browsing, but anything else felt cramped. i read a lot of pdfs, spreadsheets and some other documentation on my infinity

Have either of you Infinity guys had trouble with apps?

typing in netflix is slow, thats all ive run into...but after the system update the other day its a lot better. still a tad slow, that may be in part to the swype keyboard, too.

ive noticed chrome seems to "hibernate" and is slow to respond after i stop using it for a while, but after a moment it picks up quick. that may just be the 5th core getting it started and then the full cpu kicking in? not sure, after a moment it always works great, so its a very minor annoyance, and i dont use the web browser much.

for the stuff i use most...no issues, very happy. exchange sync/mail works great, office apps, one note, sky drive, media player, kindle, amazon, im pretty happy with the device. dont really care that i dont have the keyboard dock, either.

Apparently a 10" Samsung Nexus tablet launching in a week or so. Might want to hold off and see if the rumor becomes reality.

Wouldn't you consider an iPad? The New iPad has an amazing display which is perfect for reading text. If you are a perfectionist then you should really get an iPad because it has a good build quality, good design, and the hardware would never disappoint you.

I don't think they will do that. Because Nexus Devices are supposed to be test devices. That is why they always have a downfall, so you will still buy the OEM's product. Although their prices are quite competitive.

Just in case you didn't know, there's a new Nook HD+ 9" coming out very soon that's $30 cheaper than the Kindle 9".

Neither is available yet so I haven't got an opinion which I like better. We do have a Kindle HD 7" which I think is pretty impressive so I expect the Kindle 9" will be too.

The drawbacks of the Nook HD+ 9" are it has no camera, which doesn't matter to you, and its tied to Barnes and Noble instead of Amazon, and I think Amazon is better for me.
