1. Seasonic SS-300FS / Zalman CNPS7000A-CU / Adda 120mm x 25mm Exhaust
2. Black Pioneer A05 DVD-RW / no floppy = clean looking :D
3. Western Digital 120GB 7200rpm / Maxtor 80GB 5400rpm

GODCHRISTIT'SSOQUIET!!!

I'm so happy with my purchase.
The case, the Adda, the seasonic cost me a grand total of $90 (tax included and shipped).

while it's not absolutely silent, it's damn good enough. i can hear myself think again!
i used to turn up the music really loud before so i wouldn't hear the computer fans.
at some point next year, i'll switch out the hard drives for seagate 7200.7s.
i think that's where i'm getting the most noise now.
the gpu fan on the radeon 8500 is making some noise, but that'll get swapped out with a 9800 pro in a couple months.

i know the pictures aren't that interesting to you guys, but i just wanted to show the final result. (and also i wanted to transfer pictures from my dig cam to make sure the usb port in the front case worked :D)

i would like to cut off the stock fan grills. could you give me some tips on how to do that?

Thanks ZEPPER and company for all your help.

P.S. directron got back to me about shipping on the BQE. they wanted $250 just for shipping. HAHA!

Yup, good choice. As another said, that is called the Compucase 6A21 here (part of the 6A series) - the 6A19 is the beige one.
. You can use something like a dremel moto tool to gouge the grille out. Or Radio Shack sells a nibbler tool that would also work, but would give your wrists a good workout - probably common there too. If you use ANY type of power tool, you want to take all of your components out first and then wipe the inside out with an oiled cloth when you're done. Those shavings will lurk until they find where they can do the most damage, then they will strike - part of Murphy's Law...

Nice case, huh?

Good job folding thoe IDE cables out of the way of the airflow!

I cut the grills on my SLK3700 with one of those hand-held nibblers that Zapper mentioned. Not as fast as a Dremel or some sort of power tool but it only cost $8 at CompUSA. I trimmed the edges of the hole with black rubber "U" channel to make it look nice. I also threw away those purple plastic fan mounts, drilled a new set of fan mounting holes and mounted the fans directly to the case using rubber O-rings to dampen the noise a little more.

Show 'em the pics of your case, Ralf...see if he goes ga-ga over it like most everyone else (including me).
I used a dremel tool with a metal cut-off wheel to get rid of the grills on my SLK3700AMB. Even tho I work @ RadioShack & had access to the nibbling tool, I got lazy. ;)
I'm running dual 120gb 7200 rpm drives in mine, so I got the stock 120mm fan in the front hooked up to a Sunbeam rheostat mounted in a 5 1/4" bay. My rear fan (Panaflo 120mm L1A) is going to get plugged into the rheostat as well as soon as I get an extension.

plot thickens...

just found out about the 12V --> 7V trick.
did that tonight... even quieter now.

i punched out all the middle stuff in the purple fan holder as a sort of compromise for not punching out the grills. i can't find a nibbler tool in korea. i mean i'm sure they exist, but it's not like they have home depots around here and even if they did, they wouldn't speak english.

anyway. i can only hear two things now:
1. the GPU fan. radeon 8500.
2. hard drives.

WAHOO!

Grab a pic of the nibbler tool from the Radio Schlock site and carry it with you in case you run across a hardware or tool shop. It ought to be as common as dirt over there.
