<< IMHO, the school itself is no longer politically active, or very left leaning. The general sentiment on campus after 9-11 was solidarity/patriotism and support of military retaliation. Which is a far cry from the 60s. >>
I partially agree with you there. The radical segment of Berkeley is just a shadow of what it was back in the 60's. Still, I think Berkeley holds the record for lowest U.S.-flag-per-capita stats right now. When I came home from there I was amazed at how many flags were up in my hometown. Of course, there are plenty of flags up in Berkeley, a testament to the fact that not everyone here is an Anti-American zealot. Plenty still lurk around, however.
Also, aside from one big anti-war protest back in September, there haven't been any further large-scale protests against Bush/the U.S./the war, another testament to the amount of (gasp!) patriotism in and around Berkeley.
