Can we please bomb this city while we're at it? :D

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,37190,00.html

The city council in Berkeley, Calif., last week passed a resolution expressing displeasure with the U.S. airstrikes on Afghanistan. In response, this week, out-of-town businesses are expressing their displeasure with the Berkeley city council ? with an economic boycott.

So much for external threats. Looks like internal threats are becoming more devastating :frown:

Hey a$shole,

There were 5 idots with big egos who thought their opinion matters a lot more than it really does. No need to be hostile toward my whole city. I don't agree with it and many others on the council didn't either. As you can tell from your own article:

____________________________________________________

Another councilwoman, Polly Armstrong, who, like Hawley, abstained from voting, put the blame squarely with the council members who did vote for the resolution.

"I thought it was a bad idea, unnecessary and irritating," she said in a telephone interview. "Still in all, it's not Berkeley. It was a slight majority of the council. Am I embarrassed by what the council did? Yes. Should the people who live and work in Berkeley suffer because of what some misguided, egotistical city council members did? I don't think so. I think those council members forgot that there are consequences for real people from what they do."

Great! The people of Berekely voted for them. The people of Berkeley should pay the economic price by patriotic Americans. The last thing we need is more people from Berkeley spitting on our troops when they get home this time.

I'm sure war time decisions was one of the last things anyone considered when voting for them. Seeing how it's a city council and all.

Think.

I do think. You firemen cannot even fly the American flag to support there fallen brothers at the WTC. People have the right to protest like peace marches in Berkeley. Other people have the right to boycott Berkeley any way they want as long as it is nonviolent.

Protest is great. I am glad some people find Berkeley offensive.

Generalizing a whole city because of 5 peoples opinions is idiotic. I live here and most people support the fight against terrorism. If some don't, they can have their own opinion too.

Bombing? Why don't you focus on the real enemy.

Free speech is only good for the other side I guess. Both side have right to any nonviolent protest. Your other council members did not even have the guts to vote no!

Bombing is only good for the other side I guess. Unless The World Trade Center really wasn't blown up and collapsed into a heapof ruins. Perhaps the media is lying to us about that.

I was referring to the suggestion to bomb Berkeley, a city in your own country.

And half your city voted them in...

I will believe you about the city itself when they are voted out next election...

I they are relected, that will show me that at least 30% of the city supports their view...

Given what city we're talking about, that wouldn't surprise me. :D

<< It was a joke >>

Aren't jokes supposed to be funny?

..and like I said, I'm sure these peoples war time skills weren't one of the considerations when the voting was done.

I could make A LOT of broad generalizations about Texas too, but it ain't right.

Whine whine whine. *I* thought it was funny. Sorry you can't seem to understand an obvious joke. Doesn't give you the right to start calling names. This wasn't a broad generalization about an ethinic group, let alone a generalization that refers to YOU other than the fact that you live in Berkeley, he just said "Can we please bomb this city while we're at it?" with a big grin at the end, which you obviously ignored, so the only one you can be offended at is yourself.

It was a geographical generalization, so what? What's the difference?

<< he just said "Can we please bomb this city while we're at it?" with a big grin at the end, which you obviously ignored >>

Joke yeah, he was insulting the city I live in based on the opinions of a few people. Whatever.

<< so the only one you can be offended at is yourself. >>

so why would I be offended at myself? That's just confusing.

Felix - WHy did you edit your generalization? That was way more funny than the first one. :D

That councilwoman was right.. "I thought it was a bad idea, unnecessary and irritating," she said in a telephone interview.

Considering it's really not in their jurisdiction.. It was done for political purposes and to make a statement, and now others have the right to respond...

Another quote...."These are zealots and patriots who think that the situation is totally black and white, you're with us or against, there's no middle ground," she said.

Odd way to define the American public....... Okay she didn't vote for it, but her sentiment is clear....

One interesting point... regarding energy.. California gets most of the Alaskan pipeline.. (I didn't know that until recently)

Anybody know why Armstrong and Hawley abstained from voting? Wouldn't their votes have shifted the outcome?

Ha ha.

So what are you gonna stop buying from us? Hemp and hemp-related products? "Water pipes"? Powerbars? (Yup, invented and has got its corporate hq right here)

Also, if you really wanna do something, write physical letters, not emails.

BTW, this is actually the *3rd* great embarassment the ultra-PC council has brought upon the city within the last two years...

The 2 previous were actually pretty funny
