I think it's sad that there was even a debate on whether this guy deserves to come home. I have no problem with him being charged with desertion if thats what he did, but there is no justification for debating whether a captured US soldier deserves to be repatriated. Let him answer for whatever crimes he committed before his fellow countrymen, not at the feet of a taliban executioner.

Susan Rice: Bergdahl Served With 'Honor and Distinction'

President Obama's national security adviser, Susan Rice, said on ABC that Bowe Bergdahl "served the United States with honor and distinction" ...
This the same Bergdahl whose return Obama celebrated with a White House Rose Garden photo op?

The same Bergdahl that Obama's National Security Adviser claimed served with "Honor and Distinction?"

The same Bergdahl that the Obama administration traded for five Taliban leaders? A transaction that the Government Accountability Office later found in 'clear violation of the law"?

The same Bergdahl that military.com reports is in line for $300,000 in back pay and special compensation?

Maybe so but the cost was too high.

Dude needs to be in prison. I hope they throw the book at him pretty hard, he is no war hero.

The guy has been punished plenty already. His punishment was the hell he went through as a Taliban prisoner. Let him get on with his life.

He wasn't a prisoner but rather a collaborator from what it sounds like. At best he was more of a guest than someone whom they planned to chop the head off as an infidel.

He didn't desert to go make a life for himself somewhere....Bergdahl sought out the taliban. It is old news that radio chatter was intercepted revealing that Bergdahl was looking for someone who spoke english so he could talk to the taliban.

Should that time with the taliban cover all the mayhem and probable soldier deaths his disappearance caused? Fuck him.

The Commander of FORSCOM (the Court Martial Convening Authority in this case) has said he hasn't made a decision yet, and that no charge sheets have been made. Story could be bunk.

Yes it is should cover that in spades. 5 years of torture and imprisonment is plenty.

Anw how are you going about measuring the cost? How many Americans have died from these Taliban prisoners being released? Is it just the principal of the matter you are concerned with, ie why should we give them 5 to give 1? It's the same reason Israel will give up 1000 prisoners to get 1 of their captured soldiers back. The worth of a prisoner is only determined by how much each side values the lives of their own, and we apparently value ours more.

Don't forget Obama traded (freed) 5 High-lever Taliban for this guy.

Who were always going to be traded back to the Taliban eventually for something anyway or simply sent home when the detention center at Gitmo closes...which by the indications is something Obama wants to do before the end of his last term.

Are you suggesting we allow hearsay and conjecture be the basis of the decision on whether it is worth securing the release of one of our soldiers from a brutal group like the Taliban as opposed to ferreting out the truth in a proper investigation, an investigation that could not likely be completed without direct testimony from Bergdahl himself? I'm going to go ahead and assume you are the type that would swear up and down to love the troops, but I wouldn't feel very loved if were an American POW knowing my superiors first
had to determine whether I even deserved to come home before they made an effort.

How much torture/imprisonment do we have confirmation about.

Compare his condition vs what the POW from Vietnam showed ....

he hasn't been charged yet...so wait your horses people!

Well, yeh, but it's what they want to believe, so Charge! Into the breach bearing the flag of Glenbeckistan!

When the Army makes an official statement, I'll believe 'em.

How much confirmation do you think we'll get from the Taliban & how much of it can we believe? It's not like there's confirmation from fellow prisoners.
