Bent USB casing?

Ok guys, here's a new one for me.

I have a USB wireless mouse, with one of those nano receivers you plug in.

Well somehow (I really can't figure out how) the metal casing around the connector on the nano adapter is bent. Best way to describe it is instead of it being a rectangle, one of the sides looks more like a parallelogram, like this:

The other side is still rectangular.

Best way to salvage this? I've bent it back somewhat so its usable, but don't want to put it in my good computers as it still slightly pressures the USB ports.

Not much you can do unfortunately. As long as the contacts are ok it will work, the metal bit is just a guide to keep it in the port. Bend it back into shape with pliers carefully as best you can or get a new mouse.

If it makes you feel any better I had a thumb drive that was run over by a car in a gravel driveway. Looks like hell, but it's been working fine for years after bending it back into shape.

That gave me the idea to use a clamp, going just a tiny bit in, and it seemed to work! Looks pretty good and slides in better! Thanks!

as long as the contacts are OK, your fine.

Ive even had to solder new contacts b4 off my brothers thumb drive cuz he snapped the header and absolutely needed his porn err school work..

Also OP that kind of dmg usually results when u tug the device still plugged in.
Its torque from being ripped out of the socket sideways.

can u use scotch tape? 😵
u could also crazy glue the metal shell back onto the plastic holder.
Just make sure ur contacts are ok... the golden bars inside the usb header.
