I currently run all my games (UT 2003, Raven Shield, C&C Generals, Double Helix,MOH) @ 1024x768 resolution.

I have a Radeon 9700 pro (built by ati)
Samsung 955 DF (supports 1600x1200 reso)

My question is , What would the benefits be of increasing to 1280 x1024 reso on my games? I also run the games with 4xAA and 8x AF, will I have to lower these settings if i choose 1280 x 1024?

Thanks in advance guys.

Also please post what reso's you use and what settings as far as AA, and AF

Thanks in advance

Higher resolution should give you a sharper image, and makes everything more proportioned on larger monitors. I run 1024*768 on a 17" ViewSonic

Anything higher than that looks too small for my taste on my ViewSonic. I also run 16xand 8x with my 9500pro everything on quality settings, and it plows through games just fine.

Going with a higher reso. means that you will loose some fps, but with a 9700 you shouldn't have any probs.

I have AA and AF maxed and I run at 1280x960x32.

The benefit is it will just look better. I can't tell you if you will have to lower your settings, it depends on your cpu and memory. I didn't miss a beat going from 1024x768x32.

finer resolution = better image (think about a circle with a width of 8 pixels vs 80 pixels)

my crap moniter can do up to 1280 but only at 60 hz, so i run at 1152 at 75 hz

some games don't have that option, so i will run at 1024 on those games, but i try to keep it at my desktop res

i try to run at 8x and 2x jus for kicks

1280x1024 will make it look scrunched verticaly, but 1280x960 is nice. ;)

higher resolution willl make everything sharper.... you can max out your AA and AF, and it will never be sharp because the pixels are stretched out so far on your monitor...

i'd use 1600x1200 with 2xAAperformance and 16xAF

with high resolutions, you don't really need to use AA anymore..

i have a 21" monitor.. and 1024x768 looks like crap...

Even without AA, a higher resolution will make your jaggies less detectable to your eye.
