If motherboards are limited to 133fsb, then what's the point of using pc2700 (or which ever rated ram, for ex 3200) ram inside a mobo that can only utilize it like it was pc2100 ram? I understand for overclocking, but not for the regular user.
well usually. for example. If you had 1 stick of pc2100 and 1 stick of pc2700 of crucial memory. You have a alot better chance to get the pc2700 ram to run at better memory timings at pc2100 speed.
meaning the pc2700 running at the same speed as pc2100 will have alot better chance of getting the best timings (222 etc)
thats one example of the reason. But msot crucial pc2100 ram can do the best timings anyways.
If you get a motherboard with the new Via KT333 chipset, you can run it asyncronously (in other words a 133FSB, but your memory is running at 166MHz). I have this setup and haven't had a problem yet.
