Benefits of a 501c3 over just doing it on your own?

So I am going to be starting a "non profit" in the near future - but its not going to be a big deal - mainly a website and the relevant organs to run that website - nothing more.

Do you know the benefits/disadvantages to filing for 501c3 status - this is in Texas.

It seems like more of a hassle then it's worth.

What are you trying to do as a non-profit?

It will basically be a fund raising site thats proceeds will go to Medicins Sans Fronteirs (Doctors Without Borders)

I'm starting a non-profit as well. The different classes deal with tax exemptions and status. I know with a class 3 you can apply for Gov grants, but the IRS will audit you.
