Benchmarks for comparing Intel Core2duo e6600 and AMD cpu's

I have a chance to get a used Core 2 Duo e6600 fairly cheap ($110ish). I have always been an AMD guy but these chips seem to be getting high marks from my fellow gamers. I was wondering if there were some good benchmarks available that compared this cpu to ones from AMD like the AM2 5600 - 6000.

I decided not to be lazy and find some on my own and in nearly everyone the core 2 duo e6600 outperformed all of the amd cpu's including the 6000. The differences ranged from slight to negligible but at around $125 it makes the e6600 a bargain.

e6600 is one damn good cpu. beats mostly any amd cpu with any benchmark.

I agree with secretanchitman, the E6600 is an awesome performer. I have bought 2 of them and built a system for one of my Daughter's families with one. The one I kept through 3 systems always had super benches, but of course that is heavily weighted by the GPU that you use during the bench marking... I also use an AMD for my "Workhorse" system, Word, Excel, etc.. The AMD always runs hotter and seems slower. Subjective, but if I had my choice between the two, I'd go with the Intel.

and with slight overclocking, they'll TORCH any AMD <non barcelona> you can find.

Personally tho, if i had to chose dual cores, id go with the 6850 or 6750. They run cooler, and dont have issues with IHS not being flat. On older E6600's the IHS is sometimes hella wacked.

but you can easily put that 6600 @ 3.4ghz.

at that point, it is twice as fast as an AMD 6000 in gaming. Look at these benchmarks from anand's gay rival:

on the game "prey" the e6600 comes in at 109fps and the amd 6000 at 107fps - if that core2duo were at 3400mhz it would be at around 118 - 124fps.

and as most anandtech forum members know, overclocking a core2duo is very simple.

Thanks for the feedback guys. The reason I am going with the e6600 is because I am can buy it from a friend for $120

I am also getting:

- G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
- Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s
- 8800 GT

It's been two years since my last upgrade so it's time (Athlon 3800+ and eVGA 7800 GT coming soon to a FS thread near you!). Being able to play these new games in all their glory has me excited about gaming again!

One last question...can you guys recommend a good HSF for this cpu? I will not be pushing the cpu to its limits so something that is nice and quiet will do fine.

Andy, I was thinking about the same. I have a 3700+ 939 DDR 400 setup with a X1900XT 512 card... Its not that it sucks but I just got a sudden urge to upgrade...939 socket is obsolete...

Let us know how much of an improve you see when your sysyem is up and running.

Well crap...the deal on the e6600 fell through so I am going to have to buy a new one. May be a stupid question but...why are the E6600's more expensive than the E6750's? I could see no obvious reason unless the e6600 is in more demand because of oc'ing

The E6600 has a higher price, because it was bought for a higher price. The E6600 retailed for more than $300, just a few months back.

I just bought and installed an E6850 (3GHz) and it's a great one, too. But without looking, I suspect the price on the E6750 is better (think I paid $281 for the 6850 about two months ago. Go for the 6750. You'll be happy.

Too bad that E6600 got away...
