Benchmarking tools (games, etc.)

I will be doing some major upgrades this weekend and I want to do a bunch of benchmarking before and after to compare the two setups (possibly three setups if it's easy enough).

I have 3DMark06, HL2 Stress Test, FEAR (which has a test), and MunkyMark of course.

Are there any other suites, games, or demos out there I can use? List anything and everything you can come up with!

I am looking for easily comparable results and would prefer free, but I would not mind paying for something if it is worth it (i.e. buying a new, fun game with a benchmarking tool built in).

Thanks in advance for the help!

you can download any demo online and use fraps to test.

I have did AOE3 and after playing a couple of 4x4 games even though they are not exact they show pretty much the same min/avg/max scores.

Comapny of Heros has a benchmark also if you want to stay on that path too.

Yeah, but I was hoping for something relatively standardized. It is difficult to exactly replicate a testing scenario when you are just running through a section of the game and using Fraps to record. That has been my experience thus far anyway.

Maybe I will try CoH. Does the demo come with the benchmark?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
KT

Since I ordered an X1650 XT, I could always do some benchmarks if anyone wants to see some. I have 2GB OCZ Platinum RAM and a socket 939 single core San Diego 4000+ at 2.4 GHz on an Abit AT8 32X (and using a Samsung Spinpoint SP2514N hard drive).

Just let me know if you want to see some tests.

yes the CoH demo does contain the benchmark

about fraps i see that after playing for 30 minutes you pretty much get your average fps with that many frames 🙂

Visit this site. But there aren't really many 3D related benchmarks that are popular enough to compare scores with relative ease. (other than 3DMarks, of course)

Thanks.

What I am really trying to do is just have all of these on my PC in one folder and run them all everytime I do an upgrade, just to kind of track my progress, and keep the results in a subfolder. I'm not too conncerned about comparing with other people.

Probably sounds kind of stupid, but I thought it may be interesting.

Cheers,

Nah, I'm interested for sure. It's always fun to have another benchmark to read at work 😉

I am somewhat confused by 3DMark06. 😕

I ran the benchmark with my new rig (all at stock) and I get 10,820, which it says is the best for my configuration.

I do not really understand why that would be? It also seemed to be significantly better than those with almost identical specs? for example one guy with pretty much identical specs got only 9,174.

I know it is a synthetic benchmark, so it is not a big deal, but it just seems strange and I thought the whole point of these things was to have consistency for comparison purposes.

Strange.
