Benchmarking Questions

Hello all,
Got some questions I hope you'll be able to answer. I bought a Mach V system from Falcon-NW and have some Q's about benchmarking. My specs are as follows.
Athlon 1.4

Asus A7M266

256 PC2100

ATX case w/ 300watt PS

IBM 60XP 20GB HD

VisionTek GeForce 3 w/12.41 drivers O/C @ 210/485

Sony 52X CD-ROM

Plextor 12x10x32 CDRW

SBL Value

D-Link Ethernet

U.S Robotics PCI 3Com modem

Windows ME

Now when I run 3DMARK 2001 at default I get a score anywhere from 5663 to 5684. I was told that the difference should only be about 5 points but mine is up to 21. Is this normal? Nothing is running in the background so thats not it. Also is 5684 a normal score for this system? In UT timedemo I recieve an average frame rate of 89fps with everything on high and 1024x768x32 resolution, again is this a good average? Any opinions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I would disagree that the difference is 5 points - I'd rather say around 5%.

Benchmark scores vary - it's a known fact. 5 points is too small a leeway - too much can happen (for instance, you branch-prediction may get more or less lucky overall) & so on, & so on.

5 points is not right - try maybe 5% 🙂.

I agree, it's gotta be 5% and not 5 points.

BTW, i didn't know that Falcon NW was still around... I always want one of their lightening fast pentium setups... that was back in the day though. They were always so damn expensive.
