Benchmarking in RTCW

In the RtCW readme it states that demo recording doesn't work right in SP or MP. Well I've been told that while that's true for SP (haven't checked yet), I just got done recording and benchmarking (getting a new video card on Wed so I wanna compare) in MP so I thought I'd share for those that were wanting to do so. First go into the 'main' folder where you have rtcw installed and open up your autoexec.cfg and paste this into it:

//MP demo recording
bind "F8" vstr demo_button
set demo_button_1 "set demo_button vstr demo_button_0;set g_syncronousclients 1; wait ; record ;wait ;set g_syncronousclients 0 ;echo recording"
set demo_button_0 "set demo_button vstr demo_button_1;set g_syncronousclients 0; wait ; stoprecord ; echo stoprecording"
vstr demo_button_0

Now when you're playing in Wolf MP just hit F8 to start recording and F8 to stop recording. It'll name them demo0000, demo0001 and so on. I realize what to do next is common knowledge to pretty much anyone with Q3 but for those that don't know... When you want to do some benchmarking bring down the console and type 'Timedemo 1' and hit enter, then type 'demo demo0000' (or whatever the demo is you want to run) and hit enter. Once it's done bring down the console to see your average frames.

I recorded 4 demos. So if you want to either be lazy and not record your own or compare your scores to mine I've uploaded them to my webspace. Though I doubt this would happen, please don't kill my bandwidth or spread the links around, spreading the demos themselves around would be cool though (even though I suck in most of em :)).

Here they are: Zdemo1 Zdemo2 Zdemo3 Zdemo4

As for my scores I have every option on the highest setting except I'm in 16 bit color (because I'm still using a GF256 SDR ) at 1024x768.
Zdemo1: 42.5
Zdemo2: 28
Zdemo3: 39.4
Zdemo4: 45.8

Hope this helped some people

EDIT: oh yeah if you're not gonna record your own, those demos go into 'wherever you have it installed'\Return to Castle Wolfenstein\Main\demos

Aw come on, not a single reply? I've seen this asked about numerous times. Nobody wants to make me feel bad about my scores? ;)

wait till that card comes... your score will prolly double (if more) if you go to a Ti200

Hrm, well I can only think of two things off the top of my head. You're running them from Wolf MP right? Or maybe I wasn't clear enough in where they go. when I said "wherever you have it installed'\Return to Castle Wolfenstein\Main\demos", 'demos' is actually a folder that needs to be created for them to be put in, I wasn't saying that the demos went into 'main'. I just ran em again to make sure me changing their names hadn't done anything wierd, and they ran fine for me.

EDIT: forgot to mention my new card isn't anything quite as big a leap as a Ti200 would be. I'm just getting a Kyro II from a friend of mine at a really good price. I'm too poor to get anything too high end (most of the stuff in my computer I've won from contests actually :)).

Yeah, I created a Demos folder and put them there. It keeps saying "can't open demo................"

Hrmmm maybe try creating one of your own first and see if that works?

EDIT: ooh thought of something else. You are using the final retail version of the game and not one of the two tests right? demos from the tests don't work with the final game , so I imagine it'd be the same the other way around too (even without the fact that the tests don't have the maps for the last 3 demos).

Have either of you tried making your own? I just don't see why these aren't working for you.

I was searching the software forum for a way to benchmark rtcw retail version, and came across this thread.

I don't know if you've changed anything on those files Zeeliv but they worked fine for me. I just put them into the folder you said, and ran the command.

timedemo 1
demo zdemo1

from within WolfMP

Finally got it to work.

On Zdemo 1 I got 69.6 fps. Had a couple of small things running, will test again later.

I guess the community needs an "Official RTCW time demo", so that we can universaly compare all hardware from one site to another.

Do you hear your calling Zeeliv? ;)
