Something is not right with that result, perhaps you have used different settings.

4770K at stock (3.7 Ghz Turbo) with dual channel memory gives you 240-250 FPS (~200 for Haswell i5 @ 3.6 Ghz) on our settings. As a baseline.

The limiting factor? How about the encode? You must use the same download as everyone else and convert to 720 X 480 (like everyone else). It's that simple..

Maybe the OP could re-post a link to the exact bunny file?

He's obviously not using the same file as everyone else did, because the link is no longer valid. It MUST be the same file for valid comparison results.

yep his results are invalid.

Those numbers are way off from what other people with that chip are getting.

Its either wrong file or incorrect encoding settings.

I installed the version of handbrake provided in the OP's onedrive and downloaded the video from there. Used the same file as on the Xeon box, both installer and video file.

I don't use handbrake so I uninstalled right afterwards; but if the op or someone who still has the bunny video will mirror it I'll test again.

Im 100% sure on the server I selected the android preset. I did the i5 afterwards, and I don't explicitly remember picking the android profile for that test, so it is possible (perhaps probable) that I screwed it up.

The i5 test was AVX enabled and most benchmarks are about 40-50% better than my Xeon SMP box -- so I think the results are consistent with what I'd expect.

Going to assume you forgot to select the andriod preset before?

Those numbers look comparable now to what others are getting with that chip.

just joined and had a new PC that I wanted to benchmark so thought I would try the handbrake test. Hopefully it is done right but here is my old and new benchmarks.

Old PC (with ssd drive - if that makes any difference?)

Thanks for the heads up. I am more than happy with almost 320fps so not really justify anything better at the moment than dual xeons!!

First I wow'ed at your result, my oc'ed 4770K is only able to clear the 300 mark, give or take 5 fps. But then I saw the amount of threads your cpu has and thought.. that's mammoth amount! Very good CPU for multi-threaded apps. Congratulations!

Yeah, Makaveli is right. Handbrake only needs CPU raw power and memory bandwidth (albeit not sure, if going past ddr3 dual channel nets any gains, if any, the difference will be minuscule), and having a fast disk is a must these days.

Rather than post benches from some of my other machines(such as 4770k) that are similar to ones already posted, here's an Athlon 5350(Kabini) running at stock:

That's actually pretty good considering the TDP and cost of the processor. If I get a chance I'll test on my quad core Atom tablet I have and see what it gets.

I followed up Xeon_Addict's 32-thread beast with my new toy... a Dell Venue 8 Pro.

Not too bad for a little 8-in. tablet. These 4-core Bay Trail CPUs are nice for web surfing and MS Office (which is what I use it for). It's too bad that this tablet doesn't have a mini-HDMI out--I could almost use it for a light workload desktop (combined with my wedge keyboard and mouse) that's ultra portable.

I ran this HandBrake benchmark on a couple of old systems before tearing them down a while back. Here are those scores along with a few other systems I've had/have.

AMD Athlon XP 3000+ (single core, 2.17 GHz) = 8.052503 fps.
Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 (dual core, 2.33 GHz) = 36.542229 fps .
AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE (quad core, 3.4 GHz) = 109.438010 fps.
Intel Core 2 Quad 8200 (quad core, 2.33 GHz) = 74.062370 fps.
AMD FX-8320 (4 cores or 8 core--depending on how you look at it, 3.50 GHz) = 208.568497.
Intel i7-4770K (4 cores, 8 threads, 3.50 GHz) = 244.437164 fps.
Intel i7-4770K (4 cores, 4 threads--HT disabled, 3.50 GHz) = 210.112930 fps.

The Bay Trail was pretty close to the C2D E6550 in performance. I'll have to say that I was surprised that it was that close.
