Benchmark Performance SSD Testing: AHCI vs IDE

Didn't we have that already in the other thread?

Problems with that test: Just tests sequential r/w which is per se not that interesting for SSDs and a queue length of 1 is completely unrealistic for every scenario but benchmarking with those programs.. ncq would bring a noticeable advantage in most scenarios (see 4k-64threaded for a rough example)
 
I just did this with my new Intel 80GB SSD. Using the tool AS SSD Benchmark, in AHCI mode with my Intel ICH8 SATA controllers, the drive scored on overall 410. I switched to IDE mode and ran again. The score was way worse, only 218. Needless to say I'm going back to AHCI mode. Additionally I like the hot-swap of ESATA with AHCI.
 
I think that PCPer shows so many holes in that article a rewrite was due not so much for clout but for accuracy and for the writer and that site to not lose any respect.

I do agree that PcPer is much more respected in the interwebs!
