Bench Scores - What does it mean?

Hey All..

Right up front, I will say that I have never been an "active" overclocker. I typically run stuff at stock speeds. Thus, I have never been that in tune synthetic benchmark programs, like 3dMark03, Aquamark3, etc.

Having said that, I ran some tests to see if my system is up to par, and I can't find out if these scores are normal, expected, less than expected, etc. Here is what I am getting:

3dMark03 (with updated Patch) - 8,700+ (running at 1024x768, AA off, Antri x1)

Aquamark3 (default test- 1024x768, settings maxed) - 58,000+ (7,700 CPU/8,600 GPU)

And here is my setup:

Athlon 64 3000 (running at 2.0 Ghz)
Aopen AK-86L Mobo (Bios 1.09)
2 sticks of 512MB Crucial PC3200 (DDR400) - SPD settings in Bios
Sapphire Radeon x800 Pro (running at Stock speeds)
16X DVD-Rom
80GB SATA Samsung HDD

To sum up, I guess my main question is a) are these scores normal, b) and if they are not, what can be the problem/bottleneck. Also, if there are websites out there that post benchmarks and compare systems, let me know.

Thanks for the time!

looks about right for stock...

Hmmm...if I had that rig, I'd be overclocking it 🙂 You're not damaging your hardware when you OC, you're just getting all of what you paid for 🙂

i thought with an X800 u should be getting over 10k in 3dmark03. make sure u go into your video driver properties and turn everything to high performance.

submit your results online. 3dmark to ORB and aquamark to ARC.

you get better comparison there than just asking what other people get here on the forums.

i wouldn't recommend that. Are you just trying to fake a higher score or do you actually play games and want better picture??

uuhh no the x800pro ussually gets 9000 at stock beause its memory speed is so low. Once its OCed it is comparable to a GT's score but not until then.

Thanks for all your responses.

I am all for eye-candy. I want quality, and all I was trying to accomplish was to see if something in my system is holding me up against a comparable system. From what I have been reading, hearing, etc, it seems I am either in the mix of everyone else that has my rig (running default tests) or am just a tad behind.

I plan on doing some oc'ing on the GPU to see what can come of it. I will also be publishing my scores with futuremark and ACR, and hopefully, I will be able to see apples-to-apples compare.

thanks!
