Thanks for the kind words. I just lift because I enjoy it. Just coming off 5 months not lifting and was doing 225 for reps on military today. So forgive me if I don't think a 225 bench is a lot :0

And I don't work out with black guys... mainly 50+ yr old women

For a dude only weighing 160, thats a nice bench. Some peeps I see talk a lot of junk, I think we need a picture thread.

Never said they were epic... I workout by myself most of the time and never really got vids. My last good workout partner kind of had a mental break. So now I workout in the middle of the day with mainly 50+ yr old women. Makes bench day interesting trying to get a spot.... either way, I have no reason to BS. Next week on bench day I can get one of me benching if you like. Pm me your email and I'll send it over.

Fwiw My strongest gym bench was 485 @ ~222 lbs. That was few yrs ago. I haven't really maxed out in a while so not sure what I could do but when I get into my workouts a 370+ for 6 reps is about where I am at. I am probable 8 weeks off that. On Tuesday I did 315x6, 325x5, 330x4

Okay I been around a long time, a long time. I bet anything you weren't or aren't clean. No fing way you are hitting those type numbers at that bodyweight clean.

I can only bench like 220 right now. Squat I can probably do 315 or a little more. I do 275 squat for reps. I weigh 185. Really weight lifting is not my main focus. I really only care about speed and explosiveness. I know having a strong core and base (deads, squat) will give it to you so that's why I train those muscles.

I've distracted the thread long enough... if you are really curious about my "epic" lifts, we can discuss via PM.... give me a little while to get back into my workouts and I'll post up a thread of my own. Everyone can talk smack about how legit, fat, roided up, I am in that.

I agree. I am not syaing they are epic, but when a guy goes beyond 425 on a bench and they weigh less than 225, short of them being 5'5, lol, thats pretty impressive. But you are talking close to 500. I have over the years worked out with some 500+ benchers, not one of them weighed less than 260, not one. You might be the man, 🙂.

I've seen several people bench beyond 425 who weigh under 200lbs, and they sure never looked like they used steroids. 485 is an impressive number, but it's hardly unbelieveable.

Somebody short maybe, like I said in the earlier post. Beyond 425 is not 485. Very very few clean weightlifters can go beyond 450ish. I am not saying people cheat, but when ever you hear 450 bench, 475 squat, or 500 plus deadlift, those type of strength numbers don't happen with many. And also he shared a little through PM, little different insight 😉.

I took about 5 days off from the gym due to a weekend/concert/day off. I went back in and tried bench again. Typically when I come back from some time off I feel very weak. This time was no exception. I did 10x 135, 7x 185, 3x 205, then decided to try 225 again despite feeling really weak. I managed the get the bar about halfway up when my spotter gave me a little tap to finish out the rep. I got to the easy part and just lost some focus I think.

I was actually pretty happy with that result giving how weak I felt yesterday. I'm definitely feeling a lot stronger and I think I'm starting to get some serious(given my typical numbers) strength. I'm looking forward to doing 235 soon!

5 days off the gym and you lost strength? how often do you bench?

here is an "epic" lift

I typically don't feel as strong the first day back after that length of time off. I don't bench very often. Maybe twice a week. Usually once.

Is that you?

twice a week is fairly often... once a week is plenty. seems odd if you benched every 7 days, that 5 days off would cause a noticeable loss in strength.

no that's not me... my lifts are not "epic" ... I guess I kind of wanted to show what I consider an "epic" lift

I think this week had more to do with my lack of a solid breakfast, plus me eating like crap the past couple days off. The day I did the 225 lift I had 15 pancakes the day before and I felt really good with all that fuel in me. This week all I had was yogurt and felt tired and weak. Next week I'm going to stuff some more food into my body and see what happens.
