I can't even recall how many times I've heard the right/GOP lament the "evils" of Hollywood and how celebrities shouldn't get to share their opinions and on and on. But as with most things, it turns out it's just when they're not agreeing with conservatives that they're so quickly dismissed. So long as they're waiving the flag, supporting the troops and biting the very hand that feeds them, it's acceptable.

unfortunately, too many on the left don't understand the argument against celebrities sharing their political views. They have every right to share their views. I would think less of them if they didn't have any views to share. the problem is when they use the red carpet, the oscar stage, or the movie interview to share said view.

That said, supporting the troops is not a partisan issue. You can be against the reason troops are sent, and still support them.

Actually, there's nothing wrong with it from an ethical or moral perspective.

You?re right.. so to speak *hehe* - what I find ?wrong? or at least idiotic are the people who actually listen to the ?stars? and take into serious consideration what they believe. I mean really, is there a more uneducated, insulated, ill-informed, idealistic group of folks on this earth to glean life-advice from?? -

I'm not so sure I'd equate star and hero as being the same thing. Ben Stein is correct that hollywood types are generally not of the "hero" caliber but they are "stars." I don't think I've ever associated being a movie star with anything but being very popular in movies. I can see where Ben is coming from here but I think he is making a bit of a leap such that he can write an otherwise moving peice.

Yes, small children. Which is precisely why they can't vote.

okay, fair enough, "small children" are more "uneducated, insulated, ill-informed, idealistic group of folks" than "stars". But not by much.

But Ben Stein is EXACTLY the kind of Hollywood person he's talking about here... He acts like a partisan tool, just as much as any other celebrity, and he uses his celebrity to run his mouth and stump for his party, just as much as any other celebrity.

You realize Ben Stein was part of the Nixon administration right? He was a politico long before he obtained a small hollywood career. Everything he says is geared with that experience in mind.

Oh yeah, doesn't make him any less of a tool though...mostly because he pretends he isn't 😉

😕 He acts just like all the other members of the Nixon administration, including those that went to prison for watergate. It's the mentality of the people that served Nixon, he picked people like himself and all his staff were/are just like Stein. Kisinger is the best example of that.

I forgive you though, you are obviously young and ignorant. Regan was president when you were born wasn't he?
