Belmont Stakes - watch Big Brown history

Winning the triple crown of horse racing is said to be the most difficult of all sporting achievements. 3 races in 5 weeks with the final one at Belmont Park and a brutal 1.5 miles. The only horse who could have beaten Big Brown is Casino Drive and he SCRATCHED, out of the race. Big Brown easily won The Kentucky Derby and The Preakness Stakes by a total of 10 lengths.

I still like Macho Again, don't know if he can beat him but at his 20-1 price he's a good win, place, show bet. I'll probably do a 5 dollar exacta wheel on big brown with ALL in hopes that a high odds horse comes in second.

ESPN coverage all day until 5:30 where ABC picks up for the big race.

yeah, it does seem to go like that. A horse wins the derby and preakness only to get beat in the belmont. Eitherway if Big Brown doesn't win there are going to be some big payouts.

bet 5 and you get 7 back. you win two dollars for every 5 you bet. The odds also are a direct reflection on the amount of money people bet, so the more people that bet on big brown, the lower the odds. It's likely that his odds will be even lower (less payout) by the time the race starts.

If you bet 5 you win 2 (you get your original 5 back, plus 2 more).

The odds on Big Brown will be more like 1 - 20, i.e. you get 5 cents for every dollar, so for a $2 win bet you would get back $2.10. That's only because everyone wants to have their souvenir Triple Crown winning ticket.

A better bet on Big Brown in a race like this is place (the horse must come in 1st or 2nd) since all the above souvenir seekers don't bet it, it can end up paying $2.40 or more. If you're only looking to get your $2.10, you might as well bet it to show since the minimum payout is $2.10 anyway.

I hope Denis of Cork upsets. 😀

Nah, it'd be pretty cool to see Big Brown do it. It's been 30 years...and i just turned 30 this year...so i think it's fate.

(i really don't...cause i don't believe in fate, but it sounded good)

Of course everytime i call something, it doesn't happen...so maybe i shouldn't cheer for Big Brown. Hmmmm.

Is that 530pm eastern that ABC picks it up?

Ah, that's what I was thinking, but wasn't sure. Never bet on horses before, but was tempted to run down to the local horse track and make some bets. I want Big Brown to win, but I'd probably bet on Denis of Cork. Don't want an upset, because it'd be cool to see a Triple Crown winner, but wouldn't mind the money if there was an upset. I'd probably only bet $10 even if I were to bet. Doubt I'll make it out there though. What time is the race and what time would they stop taking bets?

Thanks spidey. I really don't care enough to watch all the pre-race talk and crap. i just want to see the race. so i'll tune in about 615 EST. 🙂 Appreciate the update.

14 min till start of race. The big brown killer they brought in from Japan got a funny injury earlier today and had to be taken outta the race. Oh the excitement!

For better or for worse we got an hdtv tuner for the computer so we could watch this race. It'd be really really really nice for Big Brown to bring home the triple crown.

My parents were married the year Secrateriat won and I was born 30 years ago. Would be nice from a pure numbers perspective.

If some of my tickets come in they're going to be fat. *cross fingers for superfecta* I think I found a gem in the 9 horse - Ready's Echo to round out the trifecta/super.

I put 10 across the board on big brown just in case he gets it.
