BellSouth DSL price drop

I got this month's bill and there appears to be a "correction" as of @ August 19th on my bill that dropped my DSL down to $42.95 from above $50 previously. September's price reflects the new rate as well. I checked the BellSouth website and it looks like they've changed the pricing there too. I'm not in any way complaining about paying less, but did anyone get advanced notice of this price drop?!

I got a letter in the mail from Bellsouth that told me I could upgrade from a 1.5 to a 3.0 connection for $2 more per month. There didnt seem to be any catches so I went for it. Now I'm a flying. 🙂

$42.95 is the price for DSL XTREME according to the flyer they sent me. I'm paying $42.95 but there's nothing xtreme about my connection. Sucks I'm too lazy to call during business hours.

I'll wait out the TW/Comcast swap here in Memphis to see how bad things get. If it goes to hell, I'll cancel Vonage and use BellSouth for phone/internet, and switch to DirectTV.

I have Bellsouth, also (highest tier, extreme), I think it's WAY too slow compared to Comcast and Verizon, now-a-days.

When are they upping to 6mbit?

Unless you're in a new neighborhood or one that recently had all of its line upgraded, I don't think BS's crappy infrastructure is going to support much higher than 3-4mbps. I think I remember that the theorhetical limit of DSL is only around 8mbps anyways so there's not much more room to grow. Cable on the other hand is supposedly much higher.

They are going to be upping to 6mbit soon (see www.broadbandreports.com forums for more info). The only problem is it will be in limited areas. I'm still unable to get anything more than 1.5mbit in my neighborhood and I don't think they're going to upgrade us up from IFITL anytime soon. I recently switched to Comcast because of that.

They offered me to upgrade from 1.5 mbps to 3.0 mpbs for the same $42. Now they offer 1.5 for around $32, I think. It was $49 when I signed up in 2002.

thanks for the heads up. i just called bellsouth and upgraded from the 1.5 mb download to 3 mb download with a static ip and my bill did not change.

I'm sure they just raised the extra "Fees" to make up the difference.

They should be charged with false advertising.

Nope, no fee increases *yet*.
