bell bike U-lock $10

Don't buy this -- spend the little extra and get a Kryptonite -- I have seen the remnants of a Bell bike lock -- the bike was long gone 😛

I dont want to start trouble but would the above post be "thread crapping" ? or not , just want to clear it up in my mind

I think it's crapping unless he says "IMHO". "IMHO" makes everything OK. Mindslash could have said that "Bell locks are excrement, IMHO", and would win accolades for adding value to the thread. IMHO.

PS. Mindslash, you are right about the lock. Now find us a deal on a Kryptonite.

I'd rather hear it's a bad lock than buy it and get my bike stolen to learn that it's a bad lock 🙂. I don't think we should all go putting IMHO in our posts because it is *obvious* that everything here is someone's opinion. Some aren't humble but they just get booted if they get too annoying 😉.

Bell locks are low quality. I agree... I went with the Kryptonite instead. I don't think this is thread crapping. Just making everyone aware of their quality.

Is it even *possible* to crap a "hot deal" thread? I thought the prohibition against saying nasty things about merchandise was so that Anandtech members didn't do harm to each others' sales, and since by definition a hot deal cannot be posted by the person who would profit from it, I can't see how anybody else's input, negative or not, could possibly constitute a thread crap...

Am I missing something here?

Just to note my personal experience with Ulocks. I had always bought the best Kryptonite locks I could get when I purchased a bike ($1000 and over GT's with a cable lock? yeah). Anyway, last year at the LB GranPrix, I locked the bike up w/ a Kryptonite Ulock (combination kind - no keys involved).. Anyway, the combination mechanism crapped out and when I tried to leave, the lock wouldn't budge. So after much physical violence directed at the lock, I gave up and called a locksmith.

Suffice to say that all you need is a cordless endgrinder with a decent cutting wheel and the >priciest< Ulock will literally cut like butter. Keep that in mind when you're locking your nice bike up...

.. or perhaps when you're looking for a new bike >🙂
