acura, the Microsoft Intellimouse has the following advantages:

1. Much better ergonomics.
2. 5 buttons, and unmatched software for programming those buttons.
3. Higher resolution optics (esp. the new one with 6000 Hz sampling)

A $30-40 Microsoft or Logitech optical mouse is noticeably better than the $10 cheapies, IMO. 200-300% better? No. But $20-30 better? For me, yes, but that's an individual thing.

The point of this type of mouse is that it is compact and designed to be used with a laptop. This is a very good deal. The retail on this mouse is $24.95. It is small and is not a competitor to the microsoft or logitech optical mice. Check out the details here.

Went in to the OM in Long Island yesterday and provided a print out of their own web site, which indicates 9.99 after the Instant Rebate, but the manager there said "corporate" doesn't allow them to price match their online site. Decidedly grumpy manager. Price was $19.99, no go.
Ordered it online instead; less fuss and muss..

I picked up this mouse today, Sunday, for my laptop. For the price, it is quite fantastic! They had a dozen or so at my OM B&M.

Thanks for the post. Been looking for one of these for my two year old.
Mama's Intellimouse is a bit too big for her.
