Belkin Nostromo Speedpad n50 10-Button $4.99 AR

Yes, they are excellent for FPS. I have the newer model, N52 (although I had the N50 previously). I can't believe they haven't come out with a cordless version yet.

I just bought a N52 from Newegg for I believel $25 roughly after shipping.

So far I'm having a hard time getting used to it. 2 years of World of Warcraft using the keyboard, and switching to a new interface is tough... Though my guildmates who use this are very happy with it. I'll get switched over eventually.

I'm not sure if the software for the N52 and N50 are the same, but if it is, there is a new version on Belkin's website. Be sure to download any updates.

Some users have complained about the stiffness of the buttons. Some are like keyboard buttons, but the orange thumb button and the wheel are indeed stiff. I'm told they will loosen up. The size will also be an issue for anyone with smaller than average hands. I personally have a hard time using the main keypad and also reaching the far right "space bar" button. And I'm a normal guy with regular sized hands I guess... YMMV I suppose.

I used the n52 for years, and recently switched over to the Fang game pad... it's a lot better, though not as ergonomic. The software is what makes the Fang great, and a shortfall of the Nostromo, but definitely a great pad either way.

I bought one of these about a year ago, but it kept making my computer lockup non-stop when playing cs:s.. I'm thinking it might of been an issue with that computer(crappy dell), but has anyone else had a similar issue with it? for $5, be worth it to try again on my new computer anyway i guess..

i have both the n50 and the n52
the n50 does not have the stiff button problem of the n52.also the n50 allows u to lay your hand flatter on it w/ the palm rest removed
obviously i prefer the n50- cant play without it!

Anyone know if this can be easily used on a Mac? I would get one if I could map it to shortcuts for PS or Flash. Thanks,

I've had a N52 for years and I absolutely love it. Once you start using it, you'll never want to play without it.

The N50 has one less row of keys, but at this price it is still great!

I got the n50 and the n52 and like many controllers, they're nice but I don't get used to them and they collect dust; what I'm paying for is not feeling like there's some great controller out there I'm without.

the n50 blows because it can't handle 4 buttons at the same time. maybe that sounds silly but in fps games there are lots of times when you need more than 3 buttons at a time.

I've used the N52 in WoW for a good 2 years now and can't hardly play without it. I find it easiest to use with a mod (used discord, now i'm using bartender) to reorganize your buttons in the configuration they are on the keypad. I make a 3x5 grid and just leave the buttons blank where WASD would be (and the last button since the n52 only has 4 on the bottom row).

This makes it a ton easier to memorize which key corresponds to which action, since you'll have the visual layout on the screen should you forget. Good luck.

Great deal OP, the N50 doesnt haven't enough keys for my taste, but wonderful price.

I just wish there were more profiles out there for the games for the N50 and N52. It's a royal pain to map everything...other than that, mine works great!

The n50 model is an ergonomics nightmare, but the n52 is wonderfull. Too bad the nostromo game pads (basically a speedpad in the shape of a gamepad) where so horrible, because the drivers are great (beats razer by a longshot).

Now you tell me. Oh well 5 bucks oh shucks...

Never had a significant problem with my n52 (even though I bought it heavily used and it had gunk all over it - some isopropyl fixed it up).

It's especially great for laptops - prevents you from having that worn spot on your palmrest from using WASD too much 😉

I programmed keys and macros in for CS:S and I've been banned before because the admins claimed that I was using "scripts". I see no problems with binding quick-switch (fire sniper rifle, switch to pistol and back really quickly to avoid reload animation) to a key because it really defeats the purpose of using a n52/n50 if you can't use macros. Needless to say I play on different servers now.

Also helps if you want to program repeated keystrokes to continue until you release a button or you press it again - saves a lot of keypresses/mouse clicks if you program it right. Your fingers will thank you 😉

Ive had the N52 for a year now and I could never get used to it. The D-pad is hard to use, and the space button is in a really bad place. Worst of all, the orange button is impossible to press.
Might be good for RTS/MMORPG games (sup com and WoW, anyone?)

And no, im not selling it.

So this thing, or the n52 does do macros right? So I could program one button to act as though I had pressed 3 buttons? Say for instance in UT2K4, lets say i want the right arrow key button on the game pad to act as it normaly does in the game, but could I then set up the button above(or below) it to act as though I had pressed a direction arrow twice and then the space bar after that, resulting in a dodge with a jump at the end, which can cause the character to dodge a very large distance. Would this work?

I am actually leanign towards the N52, I can still get it pretty cheap, and it looks a bit better then the n50.

Yes coolred, that's exactly how macros work. Some would say it gives you an unfair advantage, but I say it simply gives you your money's worth and saves your fingers 😉
