Belkin Acquires Linksys From Cisco

I'll agree Belkin's track record is horrid. The couldn't code firmware if their life depended on it. They're probably going to simply drop their line and slap "Belkin" on Linksys's current products.

Yeah, I'm thinking this is more of a name purchase than anything.

This could be good. Linky kinda left to rot under cisco and if belkin even becomes 50% better they may make something decent enough to buy.

Don't believe that is their plan. If anything, they'll want to keep the Linksys name as it's more well known than Belkin for network products.

I've found that Belkins new routers are pretty good. I get auto-notifications on firmware updates and the update process is painless.

I miss the old linksys router/switches. The ones that were stackable (as in, physically). Now their design is such crap. They tried to make them look cool, but their design is just not physically functional if you have lot of other equipment. I use all rackmount stuff now though, so I could not care less. 😛 Pfsense rackmount box for router/firewall, 24 port Dell switch, and Unify AP for wireless.

Back when they announced the unit being sold off all I could think was "Anybody but Belkin, anybody but Belkin, ..."

Ugh.

I've used many of both brands with no issues. Of course, I flash Tomato on them all (or I won't buy them) and they have all been rock solid. Also have an Asus RT-N16 and it's great too.
