CircuitCity has this right now for around that price after a MIR. It's on their specials page under Computer Peripherals.

The lowest i've found this on the 'net is $93 so i think this is a very good deal. However i'm not sure how Belkin performs compared to APC.

and yes, I left the session ID, but it's only from the search and that is all. No personal ID stuff I checked the code. Gotta be safe now-a-days. lol

Does anyone know if this particular UPS uses a standard or proprietary serial cable, and whether or not it is supported by any software for Linux or NetBSD?

I've been looking for a UPS to complete my iopener based car mp3 player --it runs NetBSD-- and maybe this is exactly the UPS I need...

I looked this model up at Belkin and couldn't find out any detailed info except that the F6C525 was replaced by the F6C525SER which includes serial-connection capability.

My guess is that this model does NOT include a serial-connection feature but I can't find out the info to be sure. Can anyone confirm either way?

I'm pretty sure that these do come with the serial connection and the backup software.

The PDF manual at Belkin shows Serial port in the images. Circuit City description says Shutdown Software Included. This is a pretty good deal consider ibuyer.net shows ~$89 as lowest price for this model and I could use an extra UPS.

This picture on Belkin's site:
UPS 525VA image
seems to indicate that this UPS does come with a serial cable and software.

And it looks as though this UPS is supported for Linux, NetBSD, and FreeBSD through the Network UPS Tools application.

This seems like the hot deal that I've been waiting for.

What's the price we have to shell out at the cash register and how much is the rebate for???

Looks like that CC link is dead, but found it anyway. It's $79 minus a $30 CC rebate. Not bad, I'll pick one up today if there are any in stock...

My cost:

$79.99 + tax
$30 rebate

I'm paying $85 and change when I pick mine up tonight.

Belkin makes very nice products...I'm sure their UPS's are good too.

525Va is a good size...should power 17"monitor and Athlon 800 for probably 8-10 minutes...plenty for a shutdown.

I don't know CC pricematch policies, but my local OD (Harrisburg, PA) has these on clearance for $54.xx. Maybe you could check you local OD and see if they have any on clearance. I bought one (625a) for $74, then took it back after I realized that I don't have any "mission critical" need for my pc.

I have Belkin's 325VA UPS ($50 from OD on a previous hot deal ;)) and LOVE IT! I haven't had the first problem, and our power absolutely sucks so I know it's had a good workout. Can't say anything about the software though since I don't have a need for it (never have had a power failure that lasted more than a few seconds at a time anyway).

Make sure that your system isn't too much for the UPS. I got a APC 525VA UPS and it couldn't handle my 19" monitor and PC.:Q Had to spend $16 to ship it back!:(

I'm using a Belkin Regulator Gold USB UPS 650VA that I got for around $130 from Onvia off a previous Hot Deal. It's only running at 36% load and when I tested it to see how long it would power the rig, I stopped at 12 minutes because the alarm was getting on my nerves and it was late. I think it's good for 20 minutes of run time.

It has 8 outlets (4 battery, 4 surge) and looks spiffy.

Why risk a multi-thousand dollar pimped rig for a cheap power strip or weak UPS?

I think you can run the Blackout Buster in Parallel to up the time (they advertise it that way). I don't know about the Belkin. I have a Belkin 650va Gold USB also. Got staples to price match it though against Onvia.com and popped on a $30 off coupon to boot. Staples didn't like it, but they did it. Got it for $100 shipped.

Someone needs to do some research to find out who makes the Belkin UPS -- I just checked their website, and they don't say they have the ability to manufacture UPS units (for OEM sales). Interesting. I did a brief search, and it looks like OPTI-UPS has a somewhat similar 525VA unit to the Belkin one. OPTI says they are the third largest UPS manufacturer in the states so maybe it's them (presumably after APC and perhaps TrippLite?).

I've used the PK Blackout Buster before, and it's rather nice for a basic model. I like the outlet placement in particular since it can accomodate 2 "wall warts" in the 4 battery protected outlets (you have to hang the rear over an edge to allow the second one to protrude downward). For $50, that's a good one, and you can double it by adding a second from what I remember, as is mentioned above.

I was in the market for a UPS and picked one up tonight at CC.

Is everything I had hoped for and more, serial port/w cable, phone in/out and cable

software on cd for Win/3.1/95/98/nt and novell netware. Will shut down pc automatically and safely in case of power failure.

$54 and change after rebate, sweet deal, thanks for the link!
