it is forever baffling to me why the cult of MAGA, now simply the GOP and their sycophant supporters, ever seem to think that "cutting government spending!" is ever going to mean that all of that savings come back to them. I know that no matter the decade and the unassailable evidence that the savings only ever go to the criminally wealthy and the ultra corrupt government criminals that run these scams (you know, that Trump family), but how is it, beyond all that we already know about targeted brainwashing of this voter base, do they still easily ignore the fact that they are only ever losing wealth why the wealthy get vastly wealthier, and these MAGATs are wholly content that it really is brown man all this time, forever and ever, that is taking the money that was promised to them?
We can point out the bullets about how all of this happens, in such a way that the founders of modern conservatism and the MAGATs orchestrated this hijacking of their brains, but it is still perplexing to me how it is so easy for them to happily ignore the plain facts in the world and the true source of their unending "misery." Is it really that they are just so profoundly stupid? I know they completely lack curiosity about the world, but are they really this stupid?
I've met some of their rank and file at the local sports bar. Not to disparage the business, the job or work, but one guy did the rough work at a lumber-yard, owned several vehicles, and his wife suddenly died -- who provided a doubling of the household income. His gripe is the taxes he pays in California. He had a mother who is becoming disabled in a manner parallel to my own Moms who died in 2023. So I told him -- before discovering his political sentiments -- how to apply to VA for spousal aid-and-attendance benefits she was due for his deceased father's military service.
Oh, he was just so grateful and elated! Then he tried to tell me what "my" president was going to do for "me". I remained polite, but explained the tariffs wouldn't help. Eventually he asked cluelessly -- "You don't think so?"
Another one was sitting next to me in the same sports bar, a young black woman, showing her intelligence, on the chair to my right. We were talking about health, and I mentioned I wanted to stay alive long enough to see some other person die, suggesting she knew damn well who I meant. Then I noted that I would go to his grave, drive an oak stake through his heart and piss on his tombstone. The man on my life changed his composure -- he seemed stunned. The conversation took a completely different track.
I think intelligent people my age are having strokes and heart-attacks over Trump's media appearances. I want this to end!
Is it the schools? Because the Christian Day schools they want people to attend are definitely not the answer, and home-schooling isn't the answer -- just passing on bigotry and idiocy from one generation to the other.
Maybe they're whining because their grandfathers -- who had union jobs when unions were much stronger -- all had Winnebago RVs in the driveway, and now this current generation are unable to take that Winnebago vacation -- no different from me, but I've tempered my expectations.
Or maybe they believe our military and gov'mint been taken over by them Fudge-packers and Carpet-lickers, and all those people want to recruit the kids for sex-change operations and gay sex.
We had segregation and racism in the 40s and 50s, but we also had The Greatest Generation. We had Eisenhower for a president, who had Honor and followed a Code, furchrissake!
I can't explain it. I can just describe it.
