Over at belief.net, there is a Belief-o-matic that matches questions you answer to a religion. What religion do you end up matching with?

I'm a Liberal Protestant

1. Liberal Protestant (100%)
2. Unitarian Universalism (99%)
3. Liberal Quaker (95%)
4. Neo-Paganism (84%)

? Origin of Universe and Life
The Bible's account is symbolic. God created and controls the processes that account for the universe and life (e.g. evolution), as continually revealed by modern science.

I specificly stated that I was for the "big bang" and evolution was on its own, where it came up with that is beyond me.

3. Liberal Protestant (95%)

5. Mahayana Buddhism (91%)
6. New Age (90%)

The top two certainly make sense for me. Secular Humanism is a subset of atheism (just as Catholicism is subset of Christianity). Secular Humanism says that we have an obligation to advance human society through deeds and actions, since our environment and ourselves are all that is - a godless universe - and only we can improve our situation. Faith in the supernatural is misplaced and a waste of human resources and effort. Pure atheism, OTOH, is simply a lack of beliefs.

The Unitarian Universalist organization, while not a true atheist organization, has no creeds or mandated faith systems...even some of their "religious leaders" claim to be nonbelievers. They view institutional religions as examples of human culture and traditions and not necessarily truisms. They celebrate Hanukah, Christmas and Kwanzaa during the month of December, for example.

Hey wanna carpool to church (or whatever liberal protestants do?) next week? Looks like were on the same bus.

There's definitely something wrong with the calculation of the scores:

1. Unitarian Universalism (100%)
2. Liberal Protestant (94%)
3. Secular Humanism (93%)
4. Liberal Quaker (90%)
5. Theravada Buddhism (73%)
6. Atheism and Agnosticism (72%)
7. Taoism (60%)
8. Mahayana Buddhism (57%)
9. Christian Science (Church of Christ, Scientist) (57%)
10. Neo-Paganism (56%)
11. Reform Judaism (55%)
12. Bahá'í (54%)
13. Sikhism (51%)
14. Latter-day Saint (Mormon) (50%)
15. New Age (49%)
16. New Thought (48%)
17. Jainism (45%)
18. Conservative Protestant (44%)
19. Orthodox Quaker (44%)
20. Scientology (43%)
21. Jehovah's Witness (39%)
22. Hinduism (37%)
23. Islam (30%)
24. Orthodox Judaism (30%)
25. Seventh Day Adventist (26%)
26. Eastern Orthodox (21%)
27. Roman Catholic (21%)

I also noticed that I couldn't answer some questions within the limits of the provided answers. It seems unlikely that with so few questions an accurate answer is possible, but that's probably just IMHO.

<< For those of you who are religious (Robert01) how accurate did the results turn out? >>

It was precise and accurate. I pretty much knew what I believed, so it was only a matter of choosing the answer(s) that reflected those beliefs.

<< For those of you who are religious (Robert01) how accurate did the results turn out? >>

Mine was dead on too. I'm an ELCA Lutheran, which is a Liberal Protestant church.

Hey Robert, you do know that Duke is a Methodist school. Shouldn't you be a BYU fan? 😉

<< Hey Robert, you do know that Duke is a Methodist school. Shouldn't you be a BYU fan? >>

Hah, yeah yeah...I know Duke is a Methodist school, although a Latter-day Saint did go to Duke a few years back to play basketball. Heck, there is one on the team now anyway.

BYU is okay. Don't see a need to go to it though. There seems to be some sort of rivarly between University of Utah and BYU though...

Methinks the test was oriented towards theists, not atheists and agnostics.
