I was able to get jobs at a snap of a finger before and now.......I'm so exhausted from all this job search crap. I've done the monster and dice thing. I've done the newspaper thing. Now I'm just finding companies all around my area and just trying to get a peak of what positions are open and then I apply for them.

Can you guys tell me how you look or looked for a job?

Check in with your friends and family - Ask them if they have or can look out for any leads in any of the industries they might be in. If you are in a major metropolitan area...they usually have job fairs frequently.

You may want to expand your search as well to other cities, if you would be willing to relocate.

Good luck!

When I got desperate, I lied. Not the best advice in the world I know, but it got me 5 interviews in one week after 5 months of getting nary a nibble. it worked, I got a job.

Unless you are in a Union that squibbles over "lost" new jobs because of technology (oh, brother) and could care less about the $2 billion daily impact to the American economy.

Think of unemployment has a forced vacation.

My friend did and enjoyed his time before he found another job.

LOL - I try but when I get hungry.....I know I'm not vacationing. It would be great if I never got into my accident, but now I'm even thinking about applying at a gas station to make some cash. :(

you know what.. just take any job out there.

I wasnt getting any jobs for high tech positions.. so I tweaked my resume for a particular job (I am a student so I needed part time) and it worked.. 2 days later I was hired.

If you are in teh computer field move out of it, find some sort of a job that will tide you over until the market improves and then you switch.

Try the link below.. got 2 jobs from there.. One in 1999 and one recenlty.

I hear ya ppaik. I've been unemployed since Feb. I have 2 (more) interviews later today (had 6 or 8). I don't even get nervous anymore about interviewing. :disgust:

Good advise. I lost my job at the end of April and I gave myself May, June and July to find the job I wanted and after that I just went for any old job I could find. By that stage I was so demoralised and unhappy that I didn't mind so much. Sure I could do with a little more money but I am FAR happy being employed again and I feel as if I am back to my old self again. The job I am doing is actually not too bad and I am sure I can move back to what I was doing before when the job market picks up.

This isn't a bad idea, because in an interview, when asked, "What have you been doing in your spare time?" you have a very good answer. Having a job lesser than that of which you're qualified will show that you are willing to work. Could be the deciding factor between you and "person X".

Also, "when I'm not pumping gas, I am hard at work trying to find my next job to further my professional career as a XXXXXXXX".

The PROS:
1) Shows you are not lazy in interviews. Willing to work.
2) You make money.
3) idle hands are the devils helper (you won't kill time by spennding money)

Having no jobs do suck, I been there. But now that I'm working, all the stress, overtime, pressure, and deadlines, sometimes I wish I had no job and just live off my parents and be a scrub for the rest of my life. Why can't I be born in the royal family and just deal with the drama and not have to work. sigh*

Check this out....since I have SOOOOOOO Much time on my hands, I kind of thought about a job. Its like your G/F man. Seriously think about it. You want the best one possible but some are wayyyy out of our league. We don't want to settle for anything less. The job becomes a bitch after you work at it for a while....and in my situation, you have to interview many times before landing a job. You know like dating. Isn't that odd.....think about it. ;)

BTW: I CAN'T GET A DATE SO HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GET A G/F to complain about later!!! Wish that I could just get at least one call back.

instead of wasting time looking fora job and finding none, just go to nursing school; in two years you'll be making decent money and always will have job no matter where u move to; yeah, it nursing sucks but in those rough economic times, can't beat it!
dude, better yet, do radiology; some community colleges got a one year program and in texas (at least austin which pays less than cities like dallas or houston), out of school youll be making 18/hr, and taht doesnt include days on call or days you might want to volunteer to work extra.....

many people say that interviews are very similar to dating! Ha! I am also jobless since I graduated from college in June. I have some leads that I am following, but I am getting desperate for some reliable cash... so my g/f and I can move out of her parent's house. God I need a job! All I can say is that the best way to find a job, (according to my experience and all the books I've read) is NETWORKING! Figure out what job you want, then tell EVERYONE you know about what you want and ask them if they A.) know of any positions or B.) know of anyone who knows of a position. Then just keep on following the connections until you find that position that is perfect for you. I personally have an meeting with an alum from my college tomorrow evening... I am hoping that he will help me break into the company that I am interested in.

NEED MONEY!

Skoorbie hated it too. He was miserable and impossible to live with.
Then of course, he got a job in ALABAMA. Sigh.
