Being fat is a choice

According to my buddy, black people in america are his proof.

Go to africa - do you see fat blacks there? His answer: No.
Go to Houston - do you see fat blacks there? His answer: Invariably.

Same genetics, different culture. Not a genetic disorder 'fat gene' epidemic.

Thought I'd have you guys weigh in on this one.

You want to know what I weigh? 😕

About 30 pounds too much, that's what. 😛

But I have had this 30 pounds since high school, for over 25 years, so I doubt it's going anywhere anytime soon. Unless I move to Africa.

so a completely different lifestyle has nothing to do with it? don't you have to have food to eat ot get fat?

Sooo....you and your buddy are what?....12...that's gotta be it because, no one above the age of 12 can be the fvcking stupid.

I think America in general has an obsession with eating lots of food instead of normal portions. I don't understand your post or what being black has to do with anything.

The below is written for humor purposes only:
I DID goto Texas Roadhouse over this past weekend and sat down next to a group of VERY large black folks. They were gorging themselves on food! Perhaps you're onto something! Texas + Blacks = FAT :Q

You know what else? I went to the mall the other day, and saw this girl and her lesbian girlfriend holding hands... SO THEREFORE by your logic Mall + Woman = LESBIAN!

If you actually went to Africa, you'd find lots of Fat people. However, your buddy is mostly correct. Most people choose to be Fat or, more accurately, make choices that result in them becoming Fat. Some people though can't help being Fat due to Genetic causes, just like some people are thin as a rail due to Genetic causes.

Is this really much of an issue? Of course being fat is a choice. It's an easy choice. For some, sure, it's genetics, but for most, it's a choice.

I propose we divert all extra income to building malls nationwide.

Well of course it is.

Some people metabolize foods at different rates, but all fat people can simple cut their calorie intake to be skinny.

Some just may have to cut it drastically below what is considered normal.

I think his point of using blacks was to compare those with similar genes in different areas of the world.

It's no secret that there's a link between the American lifestyle and obeseness.

In Africa, girth is a sign of opulence. I learned that from the movie Barber Shop.

Depends on which area of Africa we're talking about, but most are going through some sort of famine and/or civil war/unrest right now. Somehow I think that might be related...

Also, just because we're born with certain genetics doesn't mean we can't control them. Many genes can be expressed/repressed depending on lifestyle. I personally blame parents who let their kid gorge themselves and play video games 24/7 for the obesity epidemic. The part of their brain that controls hunger goes into overdrive. Thus expressing the gene that makes them want to eat more.

Sure, it's a choice to some extent. But considering the blacks in America aren't "pure black", per se, there are going to be some genetic differences. There are probably a few white/asian/latino people mixed into every black person's bloodline.

But honestly, this is a pretty dumb thread.
