It looks nice, but it also looks easy (no character ever took any damage in that whole video), and no loot drops; on-rails ARPG?

Path of Exile is the Diablo killer. So much better in almost every way; I think people that dis it are shocked when they come from casual back into old school games where you can mess up a build from the extensive customization. I was a bit put off by the huge skill tree, but almost 1000 hours later, I love being able to make nearly any build imaginable.

Not even close. I remember Lineage 2, and having to literally sit for 5 minutes for your mana to regen, having to wait 10-15 minutes for a ship to show up to move to another zone, and taking a full day or more (12 hours of grinding) just to get enough gold to buy one item at low levels. If Koreans made WoW, that pet you farmed that you took you 4 hours would take 4 weeks.

path of exile is extremely boring. Diablo 3 is more fun.

POE is quite arguably the best DIABLO game, if you are looking strictly at game play. It has some rough edges (animation is serviceable, but not top of the line) but after a few hours I'm not looking at animations, I'm working skill tree's and managing battles. Its had its bad days (OP builds) but for free, and ZERO pay to win. I cant see anybody who likes this type of game (no, really likes it) can have to much a problem with it, other then its Diablo, not much new.

Lineage II- everything that is wrong with MMORPG all wrapped up in one. Now days its 1000X easier, but sadly its still a HUGE grindfest. Just different cultures I guess. It seems they feel rewarding people who can play 24/7 is the best option. When the game was $15 a month i can see the rewards for slowing leveling down for the owners, but its so painful for the users.

PoE has never struck that chord with me the way other ARPG's have. Which is unfortunate, it ticks all the right boxes. But I'd still rather play D3 or Titan Quest or even Torchlight 2 before PoE.

Van Helsing also doesn't quite work for me, but I think I need to spend a little more time in it to get its systems down. I suppose I could say the same for PoE, but I've tried it twice (open beta, understandable issues and upon steam release, seemed like nothing had changed over the last six months) and haven't liked it much.

I do appreciate PoE's approach to monetization, though.

wait, you get to ride on a dragon and command a mech, but using a big sword is over the top? lol

that sword makes no **REMOVED** sense. at least a dragon and mech in such a world are just that.

this is the thing that annoys me about asian-styled games. I get that it's "a thing," but those over-the-top stupid ass giant swords that are twice the size of the 5-3, 90 lb girl with DDD tits is just [pavement] absurd. I feel like every one of these games is designed for horny 13 year old boys....which I suppose explains most of Asia, and especially Japan? :hmm:

I mean--look at that sword! that thing would never work.

Wow. Never played any Korean games though. What kind of grinding are we talking about? I use to play old school FFantasy, Phantasy Star, and Dragon Warrior. If it's within the same level I'm fine with that.

Way worse than that.

Exactly! Here's a conventional wooden sword as a reward :p
I hate these design decisions, freaking hate them, but I get that it's cultural.

Okay, you guys successfully turned me off from Korean games. To be honest, now that I'm older I'm less tolerant of that stuff.

lol, I hear you, but there are tons of equally absurd things in those games.

Is there an ARPG that doesn't go all Monte Hell on the treasure. More survival and challenging? limited resources and such?

There is just something about Path of Exile that makes it feel very dull to me. Tried 3 times to get into it because I hear good things but just can't enjoy myself playing it.

It's just slow. It's not terrible but I preferred Torchlight 2 and Titan Quest.

The animations/effects/environments all look quite good, but I don't really see anything else particularly remarkable about it. The party play showcased was quite drab - but there was also very little of it so it's hard to say.

Also I'm curious about what kind of game it actually is. The UI and perspective look Diablo-y but the (apparent) lack of groundloot, ability to control the camera independently (somewhat it seems) and foreign comments seem to mention MMO(RPG) more than anything else.

Game looks good to me, but I can only take so much grinding and Korean games generally have lots of grinding. Hope this one turns out to be tolerable or different in some way.

It depresses me that Diablo ever devolved to the point where it can be compared to this kind of bollocks.

I sincerely believe that the people who conceived the original Diablo did not intend for the horrible grindy gameplay to become the series' defining feature. They set out to create a story driven RPG, and the gameplay was purely a byproduct of the technological limitations of the time. The Diablo story and atmosphere should have been migrated onto a first person platform as soon as technology allowed, but instead the player base seemingly latched on to everything that was wrong with original games, and in response to that, Diablo III was released and nailed the lid on the coffin forever.

Diablo 3 killed itself...
There shouldn't be any other successful ARPG's right now, but D3 left the door open for them by lying to their customers and not releasing much of what they advertised.
Path of Exile and Marvel Heroes both put the developers of D3 to shame.
There are commonly more people streaming PoE than D3 recently. That's absurd for the disparity in resources.

I'm interested in the new game, but it must have trading in it, and it must have diversity within each class... Graphics are great, but they won't keep me playing.

What always turned me off to PoE in the past was the desyncs. Losing hardcore toons due to stun desyncs was annoying as hell. I liked the game, but hated that aspect so I quit.

This game looks very nice and pretty in the youtube vids, but many a korean game in the past has looked good for its time. Despite looking cool, the gameplay was horrendous. As most have pointed out, the grindfest pay 2 win strategy tends to be the primary Korean gameplay strategy in most of their games.
