Beginning Paintball

i just read an intro to paintball and i'm very interested in it! just the mere descriptions of how to play make me want to start right away! any advice on how to start/buy? i heard that googles are the most important thing. even before the paintball gun!

Do not play without goggles, my friend lost an eye because he took his off for a brief moment and got shot in the face.

Fields won't even let you play without a mask. When you're buying a mask, don't cheap out. Genereally people suggest buying the mask first because it's the most important investment.

Look for good beginner guns that have upgrade potential. I've always liked the Spyder Xtra, while others suggest Tippmans because they'll take a beating.

And get an electric feed hopper. Gravity feed is suck

That's about all I can think of

BTW: ActionVillage has some good prices

Edit: Oh, and when you're shooting, "walk" the trigger with your fingers

I remember playing paintball when it first started taking place back in the late 80's throughout the early 90's. Played at a place in Corona, CA with actor Ricky Schroeder. If I recall correctly, it was called Sat Kong Village or something along that line. That was about 15yrs ago. It was quite expensive back then, but hell of a lot of fun shooting Ricky.

Paintball is a blast. I have been playing on and off since the late 80's and still enjoy it. I have to say that the tech has come a loooooooong way since I started. We began with nelspot pumps and the pathetically unsafe goggles you buy at Home Depot. I have been much upgraded since then. One thing that kinda bugs me is the "spraying" of paint that goes on now. It used to be "one shot, one kill" but now its more like "one case, one kill".

just get an airsoft gun and save yourself the money of going through paintball first

😉

seriously though start ot with a spyder or a tipman

I think that was SC Village (or SoCal village - which was still around not too long ago).

Tippman Model 98 is a good beginner gun. Don't bother upgrading your first marker beyond a barrel - when I played I saw so many "tricked out spyders" with people attempting to get their money back from all the stupid upgrades they put into them (and no one wants them). In my experience, the best "upgrade" is simply buying a new marker.

I'd recomend airsoft if your looking for a more tactical feel, my friend plays airsoft, he has an Deagle, an M4 and is thinking in investing in a sniper rifle. He says the arena they use is a lot like the CS level office, paintball takes place in the outdoors, so it depends if you like tactical indoor or tactical outdoor.

I played on and off, sold all my stuff a while ago. Had two very good markers, one was an ACI F4 Illustrator the other PMI Piranha.

Autococker > * 😉

Like has been suggested start out with a Tippmann(my preference because they are tanks, can take all kinds of abuse), or a Spyder. Good thermal goggles are a must, I've always used JT USA brand. If you think you'll get real serious about it and want to be a good player, get good, reliable, but basic gear. Nothing too fancy. It will let you focus on your playing as opposed to your marker.

Want to buy all my geaR?

I played with a friends gun for a while, spent a bunch on my own gun, then got sick of it shortly after

I'd at least try it before buying anything too fancy.

ok i guess i'll play a couple times first and see if i really like it. better that i actually like than blowing bunch of money and then completely not liking it.

I went out and bought a gun and nice goggles a few years ago but never played. For one, none of my friends wanted to play, and second I don't want to know how bad it hurts to get shot.

Try it a few times to see if you really like it. Some fields will rent "better" quality markers as well, so you might try that. Money spent in paintball is primarily for paint. I agre with a few other posters...get a mid range semi-auto marker, possibly electropneumatic or full pneumatic if you can swing it. Reliability is #1 over fancy extras. The barrel is the best upgrade as well.
