I am trying to setup 2000 server and getting troubles with active directory setup.
This is for a small organiztion with a low budget, and I'm as close as it gets to IT staff, but I have no real experience, so I apologize if it all seems very obvious.
It is strictly a DNS server for a local domain that we are setting up.
I have configured tcp/ip under the control panel to 161.107.64.x
subnet 255.255.0.0
When I go to setup as a domain controller (using active directory seup wizard) I setup domain as name.local
Netbios name as name0
The DNS server setup wizard starts, I put all the same info in, and I end up with error message "the network location cannot be reached" ending the active directory setup.
I managed to get the server at our other site setup OK, and I think most of the settings are teh same, but that was a month ago, and now I'm not sure if I'm missing something. Any ideas?
Do I need to set a gateway? I don't remember doing that for the other server.
