Before internet...

I was so young I barely remember. I basically played SNES and hung out w/ friends and did stuff. Same now, but instead of SNES I have this, and I talk to my friends more on AIM than on the phone. I still manage to get out when I can though, when I'm not working or dead tired from work. 🙂

When I was little, before Internet it was BBSing, then Doom and Doom2 via 2400 and then 9600 baud modem. Also via null lpt modem. was neat.

Hrmm...10 years ago

I had just finished my first full year of college
I was hopelessly addicted to MUDs and DOS games (I still love Master of Magic)
I was drinking too much
I posted too much on the ISCA BBS's
etc...

I played with my matchbox cars, and roamed the block with all the other local dirtballs.

First was Commodore. Then came the maria bros. and of couse who can forget sonic the hedgehog!
I never got a chance to discover atari.

sometimes i feel like its a plague...
i mean..did anyone get our permission before releasing this 'thing' to the worldwide population?
its taken over billions of lives worldwide...introduced new vices...etc...

for someting with such a tremendous worldwide consequence...something seemingly untameable..
feels like it can get out of hand very easily.

The Matrix references intended.

I partied a ton. And I mean a ton. Then I quit that and had to find some way to amuse myself and to my detriment I stumbled across the internet. Downhill spiral ever since.

You had AOL version 1.0???

I remember when AOL was "Quantum Computer Services". I had "Global News Network" but then AOL bought them out in 1995. BASTARDS!

I dialed into BBS's. Computer Shopper used to be as big as a phone book back in the 80's and 90's and there was a state by state BBS list in the back. I'd go through looking for new BBS's every month. 🙂

DOS games, and Nintendo for entertainment.

BBS for the piracy fix back in college. Enjoyed major benefits when I became friends with the sysop of the largest BBS in town. He gave me a network card and I would just bring my computer, hook into the network (token ring) and copy all I wanted which I then turned around and traded with others around campus.

Hmm before I really got into the internet, I played some baseball, which I probably should have stuck with, also was into the whole stunt bike riding thing for a while, maybe 5 or so years ago. Yes, at that time I did have the internet, just wasn't really into it. Started with a free internet service for teaches, my mother was one, but it was strickly text based, after that we did one of those AOL free trial offers, hated it, then went to a local provided.

Nice attempt at re-writing history!

Move along people, nothing to see here! There was no "before" time, it is a lie, the Internet always was!! 😉

LOTS of BBS. Best applications were Bluewave news reader or something and LORD (Legend of the Red Dragon, IIRC)! 🙂

i just think its pretty fvcked up how much of our lives are sucked into this internet thing.

I remember vividly when my mom came to visit many years ago she said casually how internet was very addicting and
that it was really easy to get hooked. Like they say...Mother knows best. Even stranger was she said that
having never been online or typed more than a word on a keyboard.

Scary...
