If encoding is going to work nicely then it will swing some customers to ATI. That's for sure.

Maybe if you state exactly what kind of encoding, it can be researched and we can then have an educated guess if this card is exactly what you're looking for or not.

Well i primarily plan to use h.264 and xvid. I"m guessing since divx is covered xvid will be too.

http://www.chip.de/artikel/c1_artikel_17670022.html

Our Avivo XCode beta supports 11 video codecs/profiles: MPEG 1/2, VCD, S-VCD, DVD, MPEG 4 (DivX Compatible), WMV9, Portable Media Center, H.264 (AVI), MPEG-4 (Sony PSP Compatible Video) and H.264 (MP4 Apple iPod Compatible Video). So Avivo XCode is suitable for PSP and iPod Video fans as well as owners of modern cellphones - they support the H.264/3GPcodec, too.

I didn't think the videocard had any bearings on video encoing with xvid/divx? h.264 is supported in the 7800GT...and as far as decoding goes, nVidia has been shown to be MUCH better for that.
