Problem : Budget is $300 max (preferably $275ish). He only needs a case/PS, motherboard and processor/HSF. This puts me at $265, which is quite good. I do need ASII, but hopefully someone on the FS/T forum will get me some ;)

Looks decent, that fan is overkill though, and EXTREEMLY loud. I'd ditch it for a quieter one, especialy running a durron

How loud is loud? I have a 131cfm 120mm Delta in my side panel..is it louder than that? If so, I definetly want to switch - lol
He said noise isn't a problem, but something quiet isn't bad either ;)

I wouldn't be getting the Duron, if you only want 1ghz at least get the TBird. The price isn't far off.

My prices are from newegg - 1Ghz Duron is $56, 1Ghz Tbird is $70..only $14, but that's a lot when you have $275 to work with. I might be able to convince him...is there really much of a performance difference, though?

We're going for the Tbird - probably buying a thermoengine from a fellow trader..anything else I missed?

those fans are really overkill unless you're doing serious overclocking.

the thermoengine isn't all that great unless you do a hardocp and put a monster fan on it, one of those 7000 rpm 700hz whiny loud deltas (its not just how loud it is, but the frequency)

He's not overclocking..I just need something to keep the processor from frying..
RAM is quite low, I know..but unfortunately with prices as they are, that's the most we could afford :(

personally, i dont like Enlight cases, kinda crappy in my opinion, pay $30 more and get a nice little antec SX635, much better quality ;)

Edit: newegg doesnt sell antech but GoogleGear does, good place to order GoogleGear
Edit: <<Ordered - thanks guys>> DANG! too late!

Drop the 6500 RPM fan... in fact, go for the Tiasol Copper-Bottomed Cooler instead (don't know model #, but if you want it pm me and i will find it). It will easily cool your processor with the fan running @ 7 volts... which is nice and quiet!

I have an Enlight 7237 myself, and I don't think it's too bad. Read my entire post - he can't afford much more..total for everything (newegg order, crucial order, HSF/thermal goop) came to just about $280, and we were shooting for $275. :)
