Before I make a mistake is this an OK choice for a GTX 670?

Think I have the bug mentioned above and I'm gutted

So I'm a total newb when it comes to gaming PCs but ive built plenty of servers and VMs in my time

I just Splashed out more then I should have on a new rig, apart from all the peripherals the core components of my rig are gigabyte Z77X-UDH5, i7 3770k, Gigabyte WF GTX670 Oc, 16gb GSKill RJz, OCZ 240SSD, 3x2TB WD HDD, Win764b HP,

I can't play any game or run Heaven BM software without the GPU freezing and the driver stoppping. I get an error saying NVidia driver stopped responding and has been recovered.

I've tried every GPU/MB BIOS combinations available. All the avilable Nvidia drivers current, legacy and beta. Rebuilt windows from scratch three times. Updated DX ext ext...

I've just opened an RMA with Dabs where I purchased the 670.

Glad I found this site as I was totoally out of ideas and theres no info anywhere else. Opened a support case with Gb sent them everything, DX diags, screen shots Ez bios share, got nothing back at all. Will try them again but first Going to try PCI-e 2.0 as suggested before my GPU is RMA'd

What's the chances of RMAing my card and the new replacement having the same issue? Should I get a refund and choose a new card?

I'm worried

First try PCI-E 2.0. If that works out for you, keep the card.

I've set the BIOS to PCI-E Gen2 under miscellaneous config on the MIT page.
As far as i can tell this is now running PCI-E 2.0 and its still happening .

From the Z77X-UD5H manual it says

GIGABYTE Z77X-UD5H WiFi

1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x16 (PCIEX16)
* For optimum performance, if only one PCI Express graphics card is to be installed, be sure to install it in the PCIEX16 slot.
* The PCI Express x16 slot supports up to PCI Express 2.0 standard when an Intel 32nm (Sandy Bridge) CPU is installed.

So does this mean it doesnt support 2.0 when using an Ivybridge??

It only means it support 2.0 and not 3.0 if using Sandybridge. However, using Ivybridge it will run PCI-E 3.0 by default, but would also be compatible with PCI-E 2.0

So unllike other peoples experance, no joy using PCI-E 2.0 for me.
I've aslo tried in the x8 slot and get the same issues. So i guess its RMA time?

Have you tried your system with another graphics card or the integrated graphics, just to make sure it's not RAM or other problems?

If everything in you system is fine, then it's time to RMA that Gigabyte Windforce card.

Does down clocking your card help?

What Power Supply are you using? Provide a link to it if possible.

I'm 90% sure that my multiple 12V rail PSU was causing the issues I was having with my 7950 because it couldn't give enough power to the card because the power wasn't all on a single rail. I wish I had known about the possibility before I sent my card back for RMA so I could have tested it.

The problems I was having with my 7950 sound identical to yours too.

I don’t have another card but really good idea that trying the integrated graphics card...

So with integrated and do have some weird issues. I can’t run games that I would expect to like Torchlight.

I've ran some memory tests and everything looks fine.
Spent the full day stripping and rebuilding everything and I’m back to square one same issue.

Thought it would be useful to share the news that the RMA resolved the issues. I’m running PCI-E 3.0 without any issues. I’m not sure if I was therefore affected be the rumoured bug with the Z77 chipset or there was another issue with my original GTX 670 Windforce? Thanks for the assistance and help.
I’m properly pleased that my rig is now fully functional!

Experienced the exact same thing as you Wally, same issues same attempted solutions. Last thing I wanted to do was RMA, I am just worried it will test fine in their system and ship it back..
