Before I continue OCing

I currently have my 6600gt (leadtek) set at 525mhz/1ghz, and after running Rthdribl for a few minutes, the load temps on the card were at 87c at peak. It seemed to be running stable, and there were no artifacts, so should I continue OCing or not based on that temp?

Stock speeds bring the load temp to 84, which is a 3 degree difference with OC.
Based on this, should I continue or not? Should I be worried about temps, or just go until I get artifacts?

That's somewhat out of the question. I can't change my case, because it's a Vaio and it all has to fit "perfectly" in this crappy case. So changing ventilation isn't possible currently.
The idle temps are great, 43, which is pretty low for a 6600gt.

Getting a different HSF for it COULD work, but the only one that looked decent was the Zalman one, and that claims to only help if you have a nicely ventilated system...which I really don't have.

The Arctic Cooling NV5 Rev 2 should work for you (assuming you have an open slot below your video card) and will cool nicely while exhausting hot air.

Yeah, I was looking into that one until I saw that on their website.

Try the Zalman VF700 i heard that works quite well...or check your own heatsink it might not be making good contact...if it's not lap that baby down see if that helps....or even just applying some AS3/5

Would it work if I got the Zalman VF-700 and then got an Antec Vcool (PCI slot cooler that blows air on video card, apparently works really well)?

That way I'd have a nice outside air source blowing right onto the card, and the Zalman could use that.

Oh, I should have let everyone know that I bought a crappy PCI slot cooler a while back and removed the fan on it, and put it right up against the card. I figured that this would allow a direct air source for the 6600gt to draw from, like some aftermarket coolers use. I had also heard that it works well with other cards.

After removing it, my idle temps went down 4 degrees, as well as the ambient temp. Later I'll run tests to see if it lowers my load temp (very likely).
So perhaps I solved my problem!

fbrdphreak, if you read this, I'll still be purchasing the cooler from you, despite my fix ;)

Update: Did tests on stock speeds, with the crappy useless PCI slot cooler removed, now the load temps are at 79-80c.

Still seems a tad warm, but if everything is stable I think I'll continue to OC some.
